Rioters in Washington, D.C., tore down a statue on Friday night and set it on fire as law enforcement officials reportedly stood by and did nothing.

The rioters tore down a statue of Albert Pike, which was the only Confederate monument in the nation’s capital, Fox 5 reported.

Washington Post reporter Perry Stein documented the rioters’ destruction of property in a series of videos that she posted to Twitter and noted that “DC police are nearby watching.”

President Donald Trump responded: “The D.C. Police are not doing their job as they watch a statue be ripped down & burn. These people should be immediately arrested. A disgrace to our Country! @MayorBowserb”

Follow through with what you're saying. say he did send in some troops to clean up the city. The Mayor is the one that is encouraging this. He can't remove the mayor. All he can do is leave the military there. CNN would love that.

Yes, it's a difficult situation. To some extent, antifa, BLM and their mainstream media mouthpieces are employing the classic "red brigade" strategy seen in Western Europe in the 1970s. The idea is to implement terror and chaos in order to provoke a heavy-handed government response that the mass of the population will ultimately recoil at... thus paving the way for a new left-wing government. In other words, the disorder is not an ends in and of itself but rather a trap intended to provoke a crackdown. Seen from that angle, Trump is smart not to take the bait. At the same time, it's painful to watch public art and monuments destroyed... and see Trump's response limited to angry tweets. Unfortunately, he no good option, only a choice among several bad options.

I understand your frustration, but he has to weigh what he wants to do with what he should do. I'm sure he'd like to send in the military and crush this, but he has deep staters within the military who will condemn him, members of his own party (e.g. rhymes with twit) who will condemn him, and a media who will use anything they can to paint him as worse than Hitler.

At this point, letting this play out makes the left look worse and worse - particularly since the left are in charge of the cities where this is happening.
