The media is churning out countless alarmist stories each day about the threat of COVID-19 and the dangers of societal reopening. "Risk of new lockdown rises with fear of second COVID-19 wave," writes Reuters, as one example of the genre.
These stories generally incite, rather than inform. They cherry-pick facts and lack context. Only when the COVID picture is viewed in perspective are people able to make wise decisions about their actions. It should be safe for society to continue broadly reopening while directing resources to specific at-risk populations, such as nursing homes and prisons, which are more vulnerable

Just got to see my 96 year old mother-in-law for the first time in months through the window of the nursing home. She couldn’t understand why we couldn’t come in to see her. So sad.
It looks like next week we can visit together outdoors for a half hour, but everyone has to be supervised to make sure we are 6 feet apart and wear masks. She isn’t going understand that either.
If COVID-19 is deliberately spread in the nursing homes again, I believe there is a special place reserved in you know where for the perpetrators.
More cases is good news, not bad news. Because majority who test positive for covid-19 are asymptomatic (no sympltoms of sickness) and thus tend to develop immunity. The best defense against any new virus is to provide immunity to the herd as fast as possible.
One does not develop immunity and anti-bodies by shutting down in the home. That was evident and governor of NY said so, that he was shocked the home quarantined people had higher infection rates than those who were out and about.
The Red Cross is offering free antibody tests (with blood donation) and a bunch more places are offering low cost tests. That should tell the tale and help move us along toward herd immunity.
You can safely protest march, riot, loot, burn, and commit assaults, but don’t you peons dare vote.
You have to remember that journalist and news readers don’t take much math, history, civics, etc. in college, only Pol. Sci. If they presented any real statistics the flu pandemic would disappear in hours.
