An incoming freshman at the University of Alabama is standing up for black-owned businesses damaged during civil unrest that stemmed from George Floyds death last month in Minneapolis.
CJ Pearson, 17, is a native Georgian and longtime Bama football fan. He has announced that he will be studying political science in Tuscaloosa this fall.
The same week that the Capstone announced its plan to reopen for on-campus instruction, Pearson on Thursday hand-delivered a $10,000 check to Wilbourn Sisters Designs.
This, according to WSB-TV, was one of several black-owned local businesses seriously damaged as protesting devolved into criminal activity in Atlanta in recent weeks.
Incredibly, Pearson has raised more than $165,000 from crowdsourcing over just one week. The money will go to stores like Wilbourn Sisters that need to repair damage from vandalism and looting.
I think its so important that we put actions behind our words, Pearson told the TV network. Lets show that black lives matter by supporting these black-owned businesses that were adversely affected by these recent events, and not intentionally.

Geez people, this kid is a conservative superstar on twitter
He gets to decide what charitable cause he supports
About 40% of black businesses wiped out since Feb wont be coming back
That is staggering
He raised the money, his choice. If anyone here feels slighted they can raise the money and give it to anyone they like.
smacks of Black Privilege.
I was calling the concern for white businesses stupid. The kid raised money for a cause that he chose. Voluntary donations and his voluntary work. It’s the perfect thing to honor and priase.
“Why just black-owned?”
Apparently because CJ Pearson is a racist.
But he’s the good kind of racist, so no objections will be tolerated.
“Making a charitable donation is racist?
Maybe you need your head examined.”
Depends on the charity.
Why don’t you donate $10,000 to a charity whose only purpose is to help rebuild WHITE-owned businesses damaged by looting. Do it very publicly.
You’ll likely need your head examined. Not by a shrink, but by a trauma surgeon or an undertaker.
you win the thread.
For goodness sakes, FReepers.
CJ Pearson us a young, black, male conservative activist.
He’s been doing the same sort of thing as Candace Owens & Terrence
Williams for YEARS.
He aims his *conservative* efforts at *black* people as an intentional counterpoint to the Democrat narrative.
He knows what he’s doing.
He’s a black kid helping black businesses & y’all are attacking him.
Sheesh.
Stupid is as stupid does. This is a great example of the level of critical thinking spawned in our schools. So someone burns down their home, do we reward them with cash to rebuild? The advice given to bush before the Iraq invasion: you break it you own it is appropriate here.
Point taken but I think the difference here is that the funds were privately raided. To the best of my knowledge, no government funds were used so he can use them however he sees fit. My point is we should NOT be celebrating anybody who only helps one particular race and ignores all others. That by definition is racist.
My point is we should NOT be celebrating anybody who only helps one particular race and ignores all others.
That was my inference too.
Where does a 17 year old get $10,000???
Although he’s still a teenager, CJ Pearson is a well known online MAGA personality.
He crowd-funded the donations from his large base of supporters.
