I understand the frustration. It would really be more helpful if you were to step up and volunteer locally. Abandoning the next generation isn’t the answer.
We are a scouting family with four Eagles. We aren’t happy about some of the changes, but it is still a good organization. They have been fighting heavy pressure for years by those who reject traditional American values.
No disrespect intended but that reads like you have a lot of time invested in Scouting and a bad case of Stockholm Syndrome.
I suppose that depends on where you live. That's not what I've seen. We have very committed dads. We also have moms. These are typically a team effort from Scouting families. We have a girls' troop now, and most of the girls are sisters of boys in our larger, more established troop. It is family friendly and the girls are really enthusiastic in their participation. They have been hungry for something more challenging. We are working with what we have. The world is a big place and we don't like many of the changes, but we can make a difference with a few kids. These kids are worth it. Many of them are really terrific.
I wouldn’t let any of my grandchildren within ten miles of the Boy Scouts....it’s turned into a pervert hunting ground!!!
We do have a lot invested. We’re also not blind. My family fled tyranny to start over. Believe me, I am very clear eyed about what is going on. I would prefer that the BSA had done some things differently, but walking away would be less productive than remaining involved and helping to teach some young people about life skills, citizenship, and leadership. Something about the baby and the bathwater comes to mind.
Same here.
I respect your wish to protect your grandchildren. As you look at youth organizations, be sure to check out their youth protection provisions. Many of them are weak or non-existent. There is predation going on; it is everywhere. BSA has very deep training and protections, but it is a traditional organization and the left is going at it guns blazing. Most of the cases they are using to go after BSA are from decades ago before the current protections were in place. Inevitably some bad actors will still get through. It is sadly the nature of our culture today. I would recommend to parents today to be very careful about all organizations - church, school, youth sports, and yes, Scouts. Know your local leadership, get involved, be present for your children and other children. This isn't a BSA problem. It is a cultural problem. These actions should be unthinkable, but for many people they no longer are. I don't think vilifying those who are trying to help kids and support traditional values is the answer. Work with what is good because you won't find perfection on this Earth. If your local troop isn't good, don't support it. If it is, help make it better. I'm a retired teacher. I've seen worse in schools and in sports programs. Keeping young people safe is a big challenge.
I wonder if the Indian Lore merit badge and the Order of the Arrow have been abolished yet.
More Obama destruction.
When Obama bundler Randall Stephenson (who was just forced out as Chairman of AT&T at only age 59) took over the Boy Scouts, it was the effective end of the organization. The BSA had just won its gay scout leader case in the Supreme Court; and Obama somehow got Stephenson in there to go ahead and comply with allowing gay scout leaders despite winning the case; knowing that it would destroy the organization by causing a large chunk of the religious organization-based troops to drop out (such as the Mormon church based groups which were more than 30% of the membership. To make up for the premeditated sudden crash in membership numbers, Stephenson then directed the admission of girls into the Boy Scouts proper, completing the destruction of the unique qualities of the group. (Look, I have no problem with girls learning the same lessons as the boys, handling firearms, fishing, etc. - I think it’s great, and done the right way, may produce more conservative adult women in the future, but not in the way it was done, which was to be purposely destructive to the BSA.
Having achieved the Obama-desired-level of destruction, and having filled the management team with similar SJW acolytes, Stephenson left the BSA in 2018, having achieved the goal.
This is the homo-leftists just parading around the severed head of their newest trophy.
Still have Order of the Arrow. Indian Lore badge also still exists.
My son is in a good troop. He is 15 and has two more rank advancements left to go before Eagle...now this BS!
You are blind. This diversity and inclusion merit badge is just the start. You have no idea what malice the new handlers have.
For now.
Still have Order of the Arrow. Indian Lore badge also still exists.
I see Order of the Arrow is already under leftist attack at Wikipedia. It won’t be long before its gone. A few years, max.

In my town the troop is still pretty strong—lots of committed dads. But in the surrounding cities, not so much. The women have been running the district for a long time. And they’ve run it into the ground.
Not so many problems with the pedos—that has been in our parishes. The moms did the best they could, but they simply did not have the training, or “man tools” to guide young men into the world. And by man tools, I mean the ability to teach how to solve problems, fix stuff, improve stuff in a cooperative manner. The women did not have the inherent “team” outlook that we had as kids.
Its difficult to put a finger on it, but there was always a focus on leadership development (if you wanted it) in my experience. The kids were the ones who “did” stuff—now the kids just “experienced” stuff the parents put together for them.
I never had sons, and my work kept me out of the area—so by the time I noticed it was already “gone.”
I enjoyed the Boy Scout Experience. I have been thinking about it lately as my project was the rehabbing of a Depression Era summer camp owned by the local AME Zion church. This little white boy spent a summer managing the project to make life nicer for a whole lot of little black kids. Getting any of them to lift a finger was lesson in itself. But that is a story for another thread.
They do seem bent on self-destruction, don’t they?
It sure would suck if I was a scout who has been working towards eagle scout since I was 8 years old and after ten years of hard work I just realized the organization had changed into a left wing advocacy group mostly focused on virtue signaling instead of the traditional boy scout virtues. It sure would take the luster off it a bit.
At least my Son earned his Eagle before the perverts took over from the cowards.
A POX ON THE BSA....oops! Too late!
