Back when the coronavirus pandemic cases started picking up in early Spring, many Americans and experts asked: Should we be wearing masks?
In response, some public health officials, such as the U.S. Surgeon, said that masks weren't necessary for the general public.
And then the public was told that, actually, masks are good to wear to help prevent the spread and also allow you to go out without anxiety of anyone coming within six feet of you.
Dr. Fauci joined TheStreet to talk about why masks are important when you leave the house, and to better explain why there was back and forth in the beginning.
"Masks are not 100% protective. However, they certainly are better than not wearing a mask. Both to prevent you, if you happen to be a person who may feel well, but has an asymptomatic infection that you don't even know about, to prevent you from infecting someone else," said Fauci. "But also, it can protect you a certain degree, not a hundred percent, in protecting you from getting infected from someone who, either is breathing, or coughing, or sneezing, or singing or whatever it is in which the droplets or the aerosols go out. So masks work."
So, why weren't we told to wear masks in the beginning?
"Well, the reason for that is that we were concerned the public health community, and many people were saying this, were concerned that it was at a time when personal protective equipment, including the N95 masks and the surgical masks, were in very short supply. And we wanted to make sure that the people namely, the health care workers, who were brave enough to put themselves in a harm way, to take care of people who you know were infected with the coronavirus and the danger of them getting infected."

Amen. No doubt you are right that plain old handwashing has done more than wearing masks.
Either way, I don’t think most people are getting exposed. I don’t think their is anything to wash off or protect from. There just aren’t many infected people.
My barber requires I wear a mask as well, and he won’t even let me wear my N95 mask. I have to wear an inferior mask because that is what the city handed out to businesses.
Because they don’t work. The only masks that are cettain to work are scba involving a hazmet suit, with a sealed oxygen supported atmosphere. No chance of contact with the virus. Otherwise, there is no mask designed to stop direct contact with a virus. It is too small for the filters and will get through.
And think of this, if a person buys a cup of coffee that is marked hot, spills it on themselves, and collects on a lawsuit, then what’s going to happen when someone gets C-19 wearing a mask? The lawsuits will be astromomical.

Often IT IS NOT THE LAW.
Very few legislatures have passed a law requiring the donning of masks. Most “laws” requiring them are just Executive Orders by governors claiming a state of emergency. Supreme Courts like Michigan overturning those Executive Orders imply they are not the law, just policies put in place unilaterally by Governors. Even President Trump said that his guidlines are just guidelines without force of law.
There are entire states where Sheriffs are refusing to enforce the wearing of masks on the basis that the Governor did not have legal authority to require them, since Sheriffs are required to uphold state law.
NJ is not one of those states where anything was overturned.
I’m rereading some threads from a few days ago, because my daughter and I had a “discussion” about wearing face masks. My take is that my friend’s homemade mask is a sweet gesture, but it doesn’t fit me well, and falls down on its own in 10 minutes or less, thus making me touch it to put it back up over my nose. So I have given up wearing hers, though I know she meant well. I purchased some copper infused 4 layer face masks on the internet, and they fit pretty well, but are made of black material and get hot really fast. I can wash those and reuse, but lately I’m not much for wearing them unless required by an establishment where I shop. Most around here recommend face masks but don’t require them. I’m looking for good reliable scientific information that I can read and send in a link to her, about the pros and cons, should the topic come up again. I would appreciate your thoughts when you have the time. I realize you are very busy. Thank you.
