Back when the coronavirus pandemic cases started picking up in early Spring, many Americans and experts asked: Should we be wearing masks?
In response, some public health officials, such as the U.S. Surgeon, said that masks weren't necessary for the general public.
And then the public was told that, actually, masks are good to wear to help prevent the spread and also allow you to go out without anxiety of anyone coming within six feet of you.
Dr. Fauci joined TheStreet to talk about why masks are important when you leave the house, and to better explain why there was back and forth in the beginning.
"Masks are not 100% protective. However, they certainly are better than not wearing a mask. Both to prevent you, if you happen to be a person who may feel well, but has an asymptomatic infection that you don't even know about, to prevent you from infecting someone else," said Fauci. "But also, it can protect you a certain degree, not a hundred percent, in protecting you from getting infected from someone who, either is breathing, or coughing, or sneezing, or singing or whatever it is in which the droplets or the aerosols go out. So masks work."
So, why weren't we told to wear masks in the beginning?
"Well, the reason for that is that we were concerned the public health community, and many people were saying this, were concerned that it was at a time when personal protective equipment, including the N95 masks and the surgical masks, were in very short supply. And we wanted to make sure that the people namely, the health care workers, who were brave enough to put themselves in a harm way, to take care of people who you know were infected with the coronavirus and the danger of them getting infected."

Tell that to your surgeon and save $1.60 on your next hospital bill.
Fauci tap dances pretty good.....what is he supposed to be doing nowadays? I thought Trump put him and the Scarf Queen out to pasture?
I never wear a mask unless I have to. By have to, I mean that I don’t have an alternative store that I can shop that doesn’t require me to wear a mask. I don’t shop at whole foods anymore becaus they make me wear a mask.
3 months without a mask, and still no infection, because there aren’t many infected people out there to get the disease from.
Frankly, I haven’t seen anybody cough or sneeze during this entire Covid scare. Usually in winter flu season, I see a lot of people sniffling, sneezing, wiping their noses with tissues, and coughing up a storm. It is been 3 months since this outbreak occured, and I have YET to see one person sniffle, sneeze or cough.
Covid is real but it is not the black death and it is certainly not widespread. Very few people are infected with it and the odds of being coughed on by one of them is damn slim.
Other than that, all mask use should be optional but the nanny state alway knows better than we do.
Would a hakle be cool?
Amen.
Was he “reporting” from his cell at GITMO??
IF not, why not? The PIAPS-loving SOB is a traitor that has cost untold millions to the economy.
Not sure of your point?
Exactly. They could have been honest about it too. Then equally showed Americans ways to cover up with easy hand made styles. Even a bandana is better than nothing. They could have said this.
Because the ruling class is nothing but thugs and idiots who have declared war on the American citizens.

Here in NJ they aren’t “virtue signaling” - they are required to enter a business by law. You can definitely prevent your snot from getting on others with them; with the good ones (real N95s), you’re as protected as the healthcare workers - and you can tell by how much more difficult it is to breathe with them on (because they actually are filtering).
We’ve had enough dead people here in NJ to know this is real, and we also have a lot of people at risk: older people, sick people, fat people, and people who are too stupid to take common-sense precautions.
Agree with your points!
In full disclosure, there is one place that I have to make an exception to the no mask rule...My Barber! Hopefully that will change in the coming weeks!
A surgeon wears a mash to keep his spittle from landing on the opening he is working on.
Good one. Fauci is BS/trash.
He's not to be trusted...about anything.
Yeah. That makes sense. I preally hate the government.
As our wonderful President Ronald Reagan said, “The scariest words you can hear are, ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help’.”
It was truly amazing to see all of the people lined up to witness his funeral. People of all colors and races were there.
You have been fooled by Murphy
All Murphy did was take the average amount of people who die (every one dies) and just made them all COVID cases and blew up the number so he can get free money from the feds.
You fell for the scare 100%
Masks are useless, sure, you might FEEL good about wearing it, but the holes in the masks, including N95 are still bigger then the virus, the virus can and will still pass through the mask.
But you sure feel “secure” wearing one right?
I forgot my mask today but I didn’t really care.
So sick of the masks!!!
Yeah, like NY, most of your dead were elderly in nursing homes...right?
You like your precious idiotic masks, please wear them, but the general public should no be forced to wear them!
Wearing masks all the time is extremely unhealthy! And yes, it is virtue signaling at its finest!
Its called timing; Was the real reason masks were not recommended until after the peak occurred was to make sure people wouldn’t catch on masks made for trained surgeons bacteria prevention are useless when lay persons touch their face and a virus 1/10 the size that can seep through, so that like now many people wont wear them, but had they told us sooner to use the fake protection to shield our faces, all the rioters would have ditched them by the time the planned riots were to have occurred ?
