Virginia Cavaliers to alter logo over apparent slavery ties
Fox News ^ | June 16 2020 | Ryan Gaydos

The University of Virginia Athletics Director Carla Williams announced Monday the school will slightly alter its programs’ logos over connections to slavery.

The Virginia logo features a large gray V with an orange outline with two sabers underneath. At the time the logo was unveiled, the grips of the sabers were supposed to mimic “the design of the serpentine walls found on the Grounds,” according to the school.

All schools with an ‘S’ in their name will now have to be renamed. The ‘S’ reminds everyone of slavery

Well it’s about time!! Now I can finally get a good night’s sleep! Ha!

Reminded of Syracuse changing their mascot from The Orangemen to just “Orange.”. I still don’t know if they are a color or a fruit?

Meanwhile, the violent children pushing these changes don't care about slavery existing at this moment.

This virtue-signaling is getting a bit out of hand. How many people on the face of the planet (or on the campus) would have ever made that connection?

This is such a stretch.

The logo includes two sabers.

The grips of the sabers are curved.

The curve apparently is reminiscent-of, or similar-to, or evokes the serpentine pattern on/of walls.

Apparently these walls were used to separate slave related areas from non-slave areas.

Hence serpentine walls bad, curves bad, sabers bad, logo bad...

If you're going to apply that "logic" then literally everything in modern life is going to have to go. We're going to be left sitting around in a Matrix loader-program kind of barren landscape. Oh, wait, that was unrelieved white, can't have that.

What's next?

Gosh, sailing ships were used to transport slaves. Better ban all sailboats.

They crossed the Atlantic Ocean, better ban the Atlantic. That's going to be a little tough to get rid of. But then the climate scammers are worried about sea level rise, maybe if we drained the Atlantic and put it somewhere else... Say, African traders captured and sold them, how about we use the Atlantic to wipe-out Africa, solve several problems at once.

Slaves were used to pick cotton, better ban cotton in all forms.

Slavery was primarily a southern thing, better ban the south then. We'll get everyone to move north of the Mason-Dixon line and turn the entire south into an interpretive remembrance park...

Yes I know - absurd ideas. So is the notion that a couple of curves on a logo is racist. I guarantee you no-one looks at that logo and thinks "wow, slavery!" I've read the description, looked at the logo, and I still don't see it. As I mentioned in another post - this obviously isn't about a semi-random curve in a graphic being a problem. This is about finding another thing to bi*ch about. The left wants power. It is finding that it has or can obtain power by suddenly "discovering" racism in this that or the other thing. Then the business, organization, individual(s) will scramble to address "this horrible oversight..."

Hence the left has power, all these entities will scramble to stay in the good graces of the left for fear that something connected to them will suddenly be found to have racist origins or overtones. Because with "logic" like this logo example, it is obvious anyone and anything can be deemed racist at any time. Therefore you had all better think the party line, speak the party line. Anyone not showing the proper enthusiasm will be destroyed when they get around to it... This is the worst parts of 1984 becoming all too real.

The Cavaliers in Virginia history were British colonists who sided with King Charles I in the English Civil War. The Slave Trade and those who profited from it were on both sides of that Civil War, it wasn’t about slavery.

I just read up on this and had to read the caterwauling of “some” black students on how the walls being there were a constant reminder of the pain of their past.

Please go away. Please go somewhere else then for schooling. The freedom of America is that you can pull up all your roots, and move somewhere else. Millions of blacks left the South to go to the North to escape their past, doing so successfully.

I left East Texas because of serious problems and never went back. No more problems, no more issues.

Please go away.

I took 20 seconds to look up sabres that the Cavaliers of the 1600s used, and the UVA logo is very close.

These losers are unbalanced.

Thank you. And the swords, whatever their origins, do not convey “serpentine walls” or “slavery” in any way.

If we are going to get rid of walls, we might as well get rid of any surviving ante-bellum building. Hell, take historic Savannah, which Sherman did not burn, and tear it down, completely. We might as well burn Charleston to the ground, too.

They are actually sabres, a weapon not used in the English Civil War. It was used by Virginia cavalry in both the Revolutionary War and our Civil War. Since America herself and everyone residing therein excepting the Woke crowd are racist, any excuse works.

"The Cavaliers in Virginia history were British colonists who sided with King Charles I in the English Civil War."

The state of Virginia itself is named after Queen Elizabeth I, who presided over England at a time when slavery was still legal there, as well as a significant number of other "non-woke" public policies.

The state and the university both need to change their names to conform to our new level of "wokeness".

Maybe just a greek letter or a mathematical symbol, like one of Elon Musk's kids.

Every time I see that democrat "slave" logo, I get triggered or something.

Right!!!!

Note she is acting on an “historical perspective”, not on any established truth. Might as well flip to page 32 in any fiction book in the university library and make something up from there.
