I understand your perspective but let me give a counter point. If you see under 65 and in ok health your chances of this being anything but miserable is pretty high. Remember somewhere approaching 80% are asymptomatic and 98% have mild cases.
Essentially we are saying that we are going to quarantine people for a bad cold or flu. My question is at what point does it stop. Does this mean anyone with corona virus (not covid 19) or influenza gets quarantined? If intellectually honest that means we would quarantine all people with the creeping crud in the winter months. Under penalty of fine or who enforces it?
This is a deliberate blow at freedom. I get it. If you are sick stay home. A decent lesson for all. But enforcement? Health police? Fine people?
This is simply beyond ridiculous. I am not hopeful we will ever regain our sense of safety. We are all to afraid. Its sad. I am sure in a couple years we will go back to normal but this period will me marked at an irrational response to a mild disease at best. But we gladly sacrificed our freedoms and our liberties for scare tactics that are not even remotely based on science.
And our side is equally as guilty.
Rummy Chick who continues to perpetuate fear
Kozac who daily posts the death count and compares to war
Travis McGee who has never met anything that shouldnt stomp on Liberty
ExDeMom who assumes an air of authority and stolen valor to pump fear
DannyTn who has occasional flashes of rationality amid all the nonsense
VermontLt whose Personal situation has made him a target for the misinformation
Yes, we have those on our side all of whom are controlled by fear, some of whom attempt to sound educated in the face of multiple rebukes from
Confirmed literature and still peddle fearporn. We can only assume because they love not liberty and are so afraid that they are willing to sacrifice everyone for their personal perspective
Its really pretty simple. All life comes to a risk benefit analysis. There is not one person forcing anyone who is terrified in public. Each of them has the right to wear a knights helmet with its own air source for all I care if it makes them feel safe. They can wrap their house in plastic and flood it with Uv light and never come out as is their prerogative
The market is providing for touch less delivery and distancing so they dont have to come out of their home
But why is this not good enough. The real question is why do they need to make sure I live according to their standards. The founding fathers taught is that each of us is responsible for our own liberty. They enshrined the first amendment for this and when that fails enshrined for us amendment two.
Each of us can live freely assessing our own safety without imposing it on someone else. Dont want to go to a packed night club and dance with sweaty 20 year olds? Then dont! But dont say I or someone else cant. And if the market judges that risk to be too high then the brutal force of the market will force change or extinction. And the problem is solved. Without losing a shred of liberty.
We no longer believe in our way of life. Nor do we believe in our founding. It really is a surrogate for our loss of faith and I am sure God is weeping. He did not create is to be afraid. He made us to love Him and one another. In all of this we are separating from other human beings. In that loneliness and separation we become easy targets for the Promises of man and the devil instead of living for God. And our fall and descent to loneliness, isolation and hell is compete.
We should be quarantining sick people, not healthy ones.
********
Why quarantine productive young people who test positive but have no symptoms — not even the symptoms of a common cold? Better to quarantine the people who are at risk, so the productive people can continue to contribute to the cost of caring for the at risk people.
Why would they need masks on when outdoors? Come on Governor Abbot.
Never thought I would live to see a day where you could not visit a parent. So weary of nursing home bans on visits in towns that never had a Covid case. Come on Gov Abbot..show some courage. Are we in Texas or in New Jersey?
because it couldn’t possibly be true that a 20 year old server gave covid 19 to people she was waiting on and she and one of those persons are having trouble with it
Dont want to wear a mask?
Dont
It is irresponsible for you to claim that young healthy people dont have a problem with this disease
but hey
carry on
btw, some unnamed Houston Texans NFL players have Covid 19. Two of them went to George Floyd’s funeral. One of which was star player JJ Watts.
Floyd’s family should be getting tested.
This is the problem with how you post. You are very good at false flags. I did not ever say that there would be no transmission among young people. Nor did I ever say that one of them might NOT have a hard time. What I did say was that with this disease, if you are under 65 and in reasonable health, the chances of mortality are small. If you are under 30 the chances are vanishingly small.
The problem with your posts is the same problem with the media. Perhaps you should join CNN or MSNBC as they are excellent at pulling a very rare occurrence, and turning it into an emotional bludgeon.
You also fail to understand that if someone chooses freedom, that means they are absolutely free to do what they see necessary. You think people should not be free to choose.
Finally, you opine Floyds family should be tested. Why? We don’t test other asymptomatic diseases that are brief and self limited, even if there are some who are more susceptible (see influenza, does everyone get a flu swab?) Of course not.
There is NOT A SINGLE REASON to test a person with no symptoms. The WHO of all organizations before engaging in a political rollback told the truth — asymptomatic spread is rare.
I know you want us all to live in fear. I know you want us all to be governed by your values. There is not a single reason for it. If you want to isolate, please go ahead. If someone else wants to partake in life, I am happy to support that position. I trust people to make their own risk and benefit analysis. I trust the market place to correct unreasonable behaviors.
I put my fundamental faith in the individual and his or her discretion as most people will act in their own best interest. I do not believe any one person should have he right to impose unnecessary restrictions on liberty on any other person. Before you haul off and say what about murder, this is a complete false flag. I will point to the 10 commandments, and the teaching of Faith to demonstrate what should and should not be done. God was the first one to issue Thou Shalt Not ultimatums, and they are time tested and reasonable
The constitution works with our understanding of the faith because the framers point out that our rights are negative rights — namely we have them without any affirmative action from any governing body. Our rights are inalienable and given us by God. The constitution limits not me, but the government. The government shall not...abridge the freedom of speech, religion, assembly, arms bearing, quarter soldiers, compel testimony against self, and all the rest.
And yet you wish to impose mandatory testing on people and quarantine them with strong evidence and historical data that would suggest there is absolutely no reason to do this.
But of course, you don’t want to answer those questions. So tell us, would you impose mandatory testing on everyone? If people are not tested would you force them to quarantine? If someone violates quarantine, would you arrest them?
At what point does the individual have the right to say no?
But hey, carry on, because a 20 year old who will not die has an infection leads to western civilization ending fear. Once you determine that people can make reasonable judgment and not live under the tyranny of medical law — then you too can sing of the land of the free, and home of the brave.
Abbot can kiss my pasty white ass. Screw him and the rest of the chinese carona dictators.
Your entire post was well said. I weep for our Republic and Constitution, because they no longer exist.
What is making me sick are all the whiners demanding I give up all of my liberty so they can cower under their beds holding a pacifier. The Wuhan Flu is not nearly as dangerous, and never has been.
It appears the only fad more popular than mask-wearing is the negro lives matter political movement. Neither fad accomplishes anything more than harming — now or in the near future — the practitioner ... as they’ll soon learn the “hard way”.
The mayor of the city in which I live just gave a breathtaking press conference. He said, yes we are seeing an increase number of cases in the state. This is not surprising. Our testing is off the chain and we are testing tens of thousands for a relatively innocuous disease. Lets put that aside for the moment.
What he did say (I was in attendance) is that despite these numbers, the percentage positive are decreasing and hospital visits and admissions are way down. While I work at one of the largest hospitals in our area, I can speak that we have a limited number of cases. Certainly nothing like I saw several weeks ago. What the mayor indicated is that from its peak, we are currently have only 40% the cases that we had at peak.
What is really interesting to me as at the peak of the issue in our region, EMS was getting 30 - 50 Covid Code (protected) calls in a day. Yesterday — there was 1 such call.
Even though the numbers are increasing from a raw standpoint, I agree with MOM-MD that the real metric is hospitalization utilization - we are doing fine
One other side note, one nursing home in the city has contributed 33% of the deaths for our city of well over a million since the beginning of this fiasco. That tells me exactly all I need to know...
I am actually quite happy that our mayor was not Mayor McSquishy and actually presented the facts — the media tried to do the standard hatchet job, but was firmly rebuked.
Very unusual these days. Good mayor.
Hey Abbott jump in the lake with your idiotic masks
No, that's 1%.
Well they took it off when it felt sweaty.
All I can say is that as a young person, I was really critical about authority figures and whether or not they acted like they believed in what they said.
The total number counted is greater than all but the Spanish Flu, in terms of Flu numbers. I agree though, that there’s certainly an extremely more vulnerable group than the most, and there should be priorities in handling the situation, such as having the nursing homes locked up with staff staying there even overnight for one or two weeks to limit what goes into the nursing homes.
right 1% - I should not do math at 6am
