~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Parks Reserve Forces Training Area, California Parks Reserve Forces Training Area (PRFTA), commonly known as Camp Parks, is a United States Army facility located in Dublin, California that is currently a semi-active mobilization and training center for U.S. Army Reserve personnel to be used in case of war or natural disaster. Soon after the creation of the Seabees at the beginning of World War II, the U.S. Navy built a West Coast replacement and recuperation center for Naval Construction Battalions returning from overseas. Camp Parks was established on November 26, 1942, having been named in honor of Rear Admiral Charles W. Parks, Civil Engineer Corps (CEC), the World War I chief of the Bureau of Yards and Docks. Adjacent to Camp Parks to the east, was Camp Shoemaker and the U.S. Naval Hospital Shoemaker, also built during the war. The three Navy bases located side by side were called "Fleet City". In 1946, at the end of World War II, the United States Secretary of the Navy disestablished the three facilities, and from 1946 to 1951, the Navy leased much of the land to the County of Alameda for use as Santa Rita Jail. Thousands of Quonset huts and barracks and other buildings were subsequently dismantled through sales conducted by the War Assets Administration. Camp Parks sat unused until the U.S. Air Force established it as a basic training center in 1951 during the Korean War, and renamed the facility Parks Air Force Base. The Air Force almost completely rebuilt the base. Base personnel were initially housed in temporary facilities and ate from a field mess. The first group of airmen arrived at Camp Parks in the Summer of 1951, and mass training began in March 1952 as the 3275th Air Indoctrination Wing. In 1953, Air Base Defense classes started as the Air Force transitioned the base defense mission from the Army. Parks has a primary mission of exercising the functions of command, training, security, administration, servicing and supply to all troop units, military activities and other governmental agencies assigned or attached.
New and state-of-the-art training facilities have been built and more are planned. In the garrison area are administrative and classroom buildings, upgraded housing, a remodeled dining facility, a modern lodging facility, an informative history center, and other support and training facilities.
Parks RFTA is the only local training facility for more than 11,000 Army Reserve Soldiers in the San Francisco Bay Area where a wide variety of training facilities are available. Reserve Units permanently stationed at Parks RFTA conduct weekend inactive duty training throughout the year, and Reserve Component units travel to the base for their two-week annual training. Good evening, radu...still dry for a few days?
Beautiful today and I’ve been watering the lawn most of the day. Almost time to go move the sprinkler again.

Dry today but more and more clouds formed as the day wore on. Small rain chances every day the rest of the week which means we probably won’t get much, if any, but the air will be soupy. Temps are going up so it’s going to be a steamy week.
It’s very pretty up there today. Clear enough to see Mt. Denali from the airport. I’ve had the live cam up for a while, enjoying the views of the mountains and watching a weed harvester on the lake at the seaplane base. Funky-looking thing it is.
A shame you didn’t get a chance to eat on the deck and enjoy a little sunshine and fresh air today.

The Republican Women’s Group has an annual sale - - their big fundraiser for the year. I’m taking a bunch of stuff from Aunt Clara’s hoarder hellhole that’s nice stuff, as well as some things from this house. I’ve been putting price stickers on everything - - did a lot last week and finished up Sat. night. NO ONE else ever prices their stuff beforehand so we’ll be busy setting stuff out and pricing everything Wed. and Thurs. the sale is Fri. and Sat.
I have two car loads - and the station wagon holds a lot - so having it priced already will save SOME time this week.
I probably won’t have much computer time after tonight. Gotta do a lot tomorrow that I won’t have time for the rest of the week.
I’ll be dead on my feet by Sat. evening.

You should take your laptop out on the deck and enjoy the fresh air. Clears your head. :)

Well, after reading that, guess we won’t see you for the quiz tomorrow night. You’ll be wiped out by the time you’ve been out in the heat all day.
Smokey was there for both meals today. Tonight she was on top of the shed, so I’m guessing someone xhased her up there and she was waiting for her opportunity to sneak down and eat. I didn’t get to pet her today.

Howdy, LUV.
I guess we’ve been hanging out at the same place tonight. :-)
I don’t know if I’ll be in tomorrow for the quiz or not. I’m going to try to at least get a greeting in each night but won’t be able to stick around. It’s going to be a crazy week with a lot of early risings. UGH! I just hope a lot of people show up to buy all the stuff we have this year. Whatever is left over Sat. afternoon will be donated to AmVets, and we’ll have to load it all up to deliver it that afternoon ..... in muggy mid 90s.
We won’t be outside for the sale at least. That’s inside with AC, though with people going in and out it’ll be a little warm in there.
Glad to hear Smokey showed up today. A shame you didn’t get to pet her but at least she got to eat. She needs that more than lovin’ right now. :-)

A very pleasant good Tuesday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Lauren for this morning's thread.
How's everyone doing this morning?

I expect we were. LOL! I figured you might be there since it wasn’t Covid. We’re both sick of that stuff.
Is there any way you can take a personal fan to put at your feet in the building, so you’d at least have a breeze blowing on you? That might help a little.
I am hoping she’ll be on the patio in the morning so I can pet her and check to see how she’s feeling.

Was it another fine day for a romp at the lake with Gizmo?
I keep hoping to see some rain in your area so there won’t be any more fires.

I just happened to check to see if he was streaming. He’d been on close to an hour so I had to pop through to get caught up. Nothing had been posted here about it at the time.
A fan for my feet would have to be on a little wagon. I don’t sit in one spot. I’m constantly moving around, keeping an eye on things and straightening up the messes people make when they shop.
I hope Smokey’s on the patio, too, so you can feel her to see if she’s gaining a little weight. And getting a little lovin’ will let her know she’s welcome there, even if Shadow wants her to feel differently. :-)

Everything went well at the lake Yesterday. We did see a family boating and sunbathing out there. I'm getting ready to go to the dentist for my bi-annual teeth cleaning later this morning.

Oh, jeez. I thought you probably had a booth to sit at or something. Anyhow, I hope it’s a success, especially after all the hard work of digging through all that stuff and then pricing things.
She sure needs some lovin’. I haven’t seen such sad eyes on a cat before. I haven’t been able to get close enough to Ghost to dr. him for a while. He has caught on to me sneaking up behind him and he won’t have it. LOL

It looks like it was a little overcast. Y’all didn’t cast much shadow. Too bad there wasn’t some rain too.
Oh boy, what fun lies ahead today. A trip to the dentist. LOL! At least it’s just for a cleaning.

A couple of the older ladies in the group usually take care of checking folks out. The rest of us mill around. We normally have an army working but I don’t know how the Wuhanic Plague is going to affect things this year. I’m almost the youngest and I’m 68. I have a feeling we’ll be short-handed and that’s going to make it a rough four days.
She does have sad eyes but my guess is part of it is from lack of food for so long. She doesn’t feel all that great. They’ll brighten when she’s gotten her steam back up.
Stinker Ghost. LOL! At least you got SOME medicine on that booboo and I hope it helped.

Got a dentist appointment today.
I never thought I would say that with such joy and optimism!
