being on his knees it doesnt mean the same today ....he was thankful ...now it means full of hate

He’s on his knees in gratitude for being freed- it’s an old artistic method of depicting gratitude and it has nothing to do with submission, but the “art critic” in the article is too uneducated to know that, and due to an unjustified sense of entitlement, may not even understand the concept of gratitude.
