As cities across the country are discussing defunding or disbanding their police departments, truck drivers are voicing concerns of safety. Seventy-seven percent of truck drivers say they will refuse to deliver freight to cities with defunded police departments.
Truck driving is historically ranked as one of the most dangerous jobs in the country. In 2018, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistic reported truck driving as the most deadly job in the country.
Truck drivers have spent the last year on the front line of a global pandemic and protests. Now many are fearful of what might happen if police departs disband or are defunded.
Truck drives have been voicing their concerns on the CDLLife App. After reading about their concerns, CDLLife posted a poll on the app.
We asked drivers on the app, Would you pick up/deliver to cities with defunded or disbanded police departments? Why or why not?
To date, 77% of drivers say they will refuse loads to cities with disbanded or defunded police departments.
Here are some of their responses:
if something was to happen and you have to take matters into your own hands, and then you risk being prosecuted for protecting yourself.
This is not an area you need to act fearless and think you youd look like a fool for saying no
Imagine what kind of fool you look like for driving into a hot spot and putting your life in danger.

Thats just simple common sense.
Sounds like you’ve done this before, or seen it done.
You beat me to it. I’m a former trucker and the industry is largely company drivers now. There are some companies where you can refuse a load......but the majority you can’t. HOWEVER, this would be a great opportunity to finally unite the truckers— which is an issue because it is a fragmented industry with no union. If you mentioned union you get fired.
No. Im not a biker. Nor have I seen it done.
Just hoping to.

Thats not the issue. Its a safety/money thing. Neither companies nor independent drivers want their cargos looted or their rigs damaged.
If you ever want to stop consumables from entering an area, target the trucks. Word will get around and movement will stop.”
Yep, “an army marches on its stomach”.
Cut the supply lines, and the ‘army’ is defeated.

I’m a grocery trucker. No way I would head into one of those cities with all of this going on. I’d quit before going along with pressure to do it, and I could have five other jobs to choose from the next day. Competent CDL class A drivers are in short supply and high demand these days.
“...but arent most cycle club members in their sixties and upward?”
Betcha a 60+ year old biker is a more effective street fighter than any 20-30 something rioter. And it would be fun for them as well.
Ill be surprised if some judge doesnt claim jurisdiction and order them too.
Well...since they are now looting from MOVING TRAINS i would refuse to deliver to these hellholes as well..
People in #Chicago are now looting right off of a moving train

Look for Swift, J B Hunt, Werner possibly Prime and others to follow suit.
Smaller companies may get squeezed into joining to keep from losing customers.
Interesting times....
Round and round
What goes around comes around
Ill tell you whyyyyy
But did you ever notice, Ratt never really tells us why?
**I suspect there are enough truck drivers with similar views to the protesters though.**
Oh I’m sure there are lib truckers that side with the anarchists. But after a few fail to deliver the product because it was stolen before it arrived, the customer will not be pleased, and the shipper will not pay the trucking company for goods not delivered
Paying for goods is a capitalist idea.
When the trucks arrive the Wizards of Chaz will beat the driver to a pulp and loot the goods.
They called that “social justice”.
Oooo! The public sector! Good on ya!
