As cities across the country are discussing defunding or disbanding their police departments, truck drivers are voicing concerns of safety. Seventy-seven percent of truck drivers say they will refuse to deliver freight to cities with defunded police departments.
Truck driving is historically ranked as one of the most dangerous jobs in the country. In 2018, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistic reported truck driving as the most deadly job in the country.
Truck drivers have spent the last year on the front line of a global pandemic and protests. Now many are fearful of what might happen if police departs disband or are defunded.
Truck drives have been voicing their concerns on the CDLLife App. After reading about their concerns, CDLLife posted a poll on the app.
We asked drivers on the app, “Would you pick up/deliver to cities with defunded or disbanded police departments? Why or why not?”
To date, 77% of drivers say they will refuse loads to cities with disbanded or defunded police departments.
Here are some of their responses:
“…if something was to happen and you have to take matters into your own hands, and then you risk being prosecuted for protecting yourself.”
“This is not an area you need to act fearless and think you you’d look like a fool for saying no…Imagine what kind of fool you look like for driving into a hot spot and putting your life in danger.”

Not only all that, but the COVID-19 shutdown has shown many companies that their employees can work from home, no problem. So there really is no need for dense downtown districts anymore. Might take some years, but I think downtowns dense with skyscrapers are going the way of the dinosaurs.

Wasn’t all that long ago that URBAN RENEWAL drove all the ‘seedy business’ and Flop Houses out of downtown for ‘redevelopment’.
Up went fancy office buildings, high dollar Condos etc etc.
And, in some cases, low income housing was just ‘condemned’ so fancy new buildings could go up.
Also the birth of the MASS homelessnes, the bums that were perfectly happy in the ‘flop house’ suddenly found themselves on the street, living in doorways and on grates.
Areas were sorta kept clean till the LIBS overran everything and declared homelessness was a ‘virtue’ (Just NOT on ‘my’ street) and they should be allowed to panhandle unmolested also, the closing of ‘mental institutions and lax sentencing didn’t/doesn’t help.

What would be considered "enough drivers?"
Even if there is a 20% reduction in deliveries to the cities in question, that 80% remaining would still be a big hit to their local economies and the residents that live there (looking to buy goods and receive services that rely on delivered goods).
If this poll is even half correct, that would be nearly 40% reduction in deliveries. Pretty devastating stuff.
One of the alleged respondents put it correctly. If they were to be attacked (increased chance with no/less LE) they are on their own to protect themselves. And, since this would occur in a city that is clearly left/socialist/Marxist...the defendant driver would be railroaded in their new "community justice system."
So why take that increased chance for the same rate of pay? Many/most will determine it's not worth it.
