Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Thursday lauded Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley for apologizing for accompanying President Donald Trump on his walk to St. Johns Episcopal Church earlier this month.
I have nothing but deep admiration for and total confidence in General Milley as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Graham wrote on Twitter. I support his statement in both substance and spirit regarding the recent presidential visit to St. Johns.
General Milley is a tremendous military leader who understands the long tradition of maintaining an apolitical, nonpartisan military, the South Carolina Republican added.
Earlier Thursday, Milley expressed regret for walking with President Donald Trump to the church, where the president posed for a photo holding up a bible as he vowed to restore order in the wake of protests and riots sparked by the death of George Floyd, a black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis.
My presence in that moment and in that environment created a perception of the military involved in domestic politics, Milley said in a pre-recorded speech to National Defense University graduates. As a commissioned uniformed officer, it was a mistake that I have learned from, and I sincerely hope we all can learn from it.
Milley, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, and Attorney General William Barr accompanied President Trump to Lafayette Square after protesters were cleared from the park. Democrats and the corporate media accused law enforcement of using tear gas against the protesters, a claim dismissed by the U.S. Park Police.

He won the Primary and now we are going to see the REAL Linda we all warned you about.
He is going to make McCain look like a Reagan Reincarnate.
Very much.
Could be. I’m not sure. He shouldn’t have addressed it with the Media though.
Arguably ir was too political an event for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs to participate.
But the apologia is overboard.
why do people vote f or graham cracker
Now this?
So predictable.
Linda is past the primaries so the mask comes off. It feels a little hopeless today. One of those days that feels like we are 5 months from losing the country. Not giving up but some days look better than others. We need that rally.
Look at the video...Everyone on the walk is in suits. Milley is right...dressed in his field gear....he didn’t belong in the picture. He simply wanted the photo op. DA
He should have not had his combat uniform on. If he was in a dress uniform it would have been different. I was really pissed about his apology and one of my fellow Marines who is very Pro-Trump said the General was right to say what he did. He also noted that the perception in the photo makes it difficult for him to do his job should he be called to enforce the Insurrection Act which my colleague thought the General will do if required.
Graham just epitomizes why the Dems will take the Senate this year.
These GOP senators who continually attack their own party, the President (from their own party), and rue the day they turned their backs on their voters when Senate Majority leader Chuck the Smuck laughs at them as they fade into irrelevancy and removes the Filibuster rule permanently as well as use the “Nuclear” option on every vote.
The man is a complete ASS.
Or maybe it will be the people getting completely sick and tired of being push around by a bunch of snotty nose kids who think their Fidel Castro revolutionaries..
But, then again, I don't know anyone who likes Seattle anyway. It's difficult to tell the average citizen of Seattle from the commies...
Why is Lindsay still a thing in 2020?
Time to retire Milley and take Lindsey with you
Can anyone say military coup is around the corner?
Agree with your colleague.
The Chairman is ‘super apolitical’.
We desperately need term limits on Congresscritters. Exhibit A is Linda.
Well he won his primary so now he’s free to support burning down historic churches.
Who exactly is going to remember what uniform he was wearing should the Insurrection Act be enforced?
No question.
