Next to Kwanza, Juneteenth is the most important holiday nobody cares about.

You haven’t been following the new American History book comrade? Juneteenth is the true Independence Day and founding of the true Black America.
(And no I’m not kidding - they actually think this!

It’s a Texas thing. That was the alleged day that Black slaves in Texas were informed the Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation 18 months previously. Apparently, news did not travel fast in that time to those unfortunate people.

It has little if anything to do with Oklahoma.

It's an obscure celebration. June 19, 1865 was the day the Emancipation Proclamation was read to blacks in Texas. Texas was the most remote of the slave states and few Union soldiers were there, so it was the last state to hear about the Proclamation. Some blacks here celebrate it, I assume because they are the descendants of Texas slaves.

But, hey, they'll drum up any excuse to accuse Trump of racism.

Its the unofficial riot, loot and general mayhem holiday.
Look at videos for juneteenth “celebrations” in south beach, Galveston, Myrtle Beach etc.

Its an interesting comparison between say Mardi Gras, with the Juneteenth celebrations being alot worse.

June 19th, the day black Texans learned for the first time that the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed, freeing the slaves, 18 months earlier.

I’m proud of my state for a lot of things, but this ain’t one of them.
