The moribund California Republican Party has been showing a few signs of life not quite vigor, but a sense that it might limp around for another few years. The GOP snatched a congressional seat from the Democrats in a High-Desert and suburban Los Angeles district during a special election last month.
The partys registration levels remain low five percentage points behind No Party Preference but theres renewed optimism that it might claw back a couple of the Southern California congressional seats it lost in the 2018 midterms.
Thats thin gruel, perhaps, but after Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsoms overreach with regard to the COVID-19 shutdowns and the Democratic Partys doubling-down approach to a controversial new anti-contracting law, Assembly Bill 5, the state GOPs leaders see a chance to make a few inroads. AB 5 has offered the party the biggest opening it has had in years given that laws dismal impact on constituencies (writers, musicians, low-income workers) that usually tilt toward the Dems.
The legislation, which is little known outside of California, could become a major national issue in the 2020 general election provided that President Donald Trump could stop sounding like Mr. Bill (theyre being mean to me) and spend more time exploiting Democratic weaknesses. In this regard, Democratic nominee Joe Biden has turned the matter into a national campaign issue one that could work to the GOPs advantage if Republicans play it right.
All workers deserve the right to bargain for good wages, benefits and working conditions including gig workers, Biden tweeted in September. That is why Im pleased the CA Legislature passed AB5. As president, I will enact a federal law to ensure gig workers get the full protections they deserve. He reiterated his support in March.

How about you just let them decide where they will work and for how much they will work for? Oh yeah that is right you know better than the commoners.
This is all about control and tax revenue. They want to force everyone to work for “woke” companies that hold the power to ruin your life.
I always have to check when I read the headline - The Babylon Bee’s work is so hard these days.
Meaning the Nationwide end of Independent Trucking Companies.
For Christmas, my wife decided to buy me a new long sleeve wool shirt for around the house, shopping at HD, Ace and Walmart before my decades old one came apart.
So we went to the local Wool shirt outlet after lunch. They were very busy. The manager suggested we wait a couple of minutes and their afternoon guy to work at 2 pm.
At 2 pm the guy came in and besides doing a great job fitting me with a great shirt, he entertained us with jokes and an excellent deep singing voice.
As he was ringing up our purchase, I asked if he was a professional re his jokes and singing.
He said yes. He had a worthless degree, and he had entertainment gigs in the evening. He was a singing waiter at lunch, and worked in this store several afternoons.
He was 20 something and enjoying his life. He was afraid that the new California law could destroy his life style.
And to control your life as well as ruin it.
Once again let me thank the voters of Delaware for enabling the career of this buffoon and his corrupt family.

Repeal the 17th Amendment. The Founding Fathers had it right!
The fewer people work, the more people are dependent on Democrat politicians for a meager livelihood.

I remember when contract (1099) work online teachers I know wailed endlessly about their *employers* treating them like employees, but with no benefits.
They demanded to be made W2 employees.
They entered their contracts as 1099s, its not exactly a bolt from the blue.
I tried to warn them.
Today, if you go to Indeed or Glassdoor and search for remote jobs, you will see that Californians are expressly excluded from eligibility for almost all of the jobs.
Way to go, whiners.
