Protests around the United States are boiling over after Minneapolis man George Floyd was killed by police. Floyd, accused of using a counterfeit $20 bill, had his neck compressed by an officer’s knee while in handcuffs for roughly nine minutes before later dying. Other recent instances of racism against African Americans in the country have led to massive protests against police brutality and systemic, institutional racism that many feel have gone unchecked for decades.
In 2019 data of all police killings in the country compiled by Mapping Police Violence, black Americans were nearly three times more likely to die from police than white Americans. It’s not just higher crime, but black culture also contributes to black people being more hostile to the police when stopped. Whenever I am stopped by police, it’s yes sir and no sir, and very slow and deliberate movement, and friendly attitude. I give the policeman absolutely no reason to get his guard up and I certainly give him no lip.
Black Americans are also 20 times more likely to be killed by other blacks as well. So, following the logic of this article, they should avoid Black Cops at all costs.
Exactly. What proportion of violent crime is committed by inner city black people? And of course, what percentage of black people, criminal or not, are killed by criminals in their own community.
They actually need more policing, not less, because some of these neighborhoods are run entirely by thugs who kill any decent black person who just happens to be poor and have to live in that neighborhood. Last weekend, 27 black people, mostly younger black men, were killed by other black men in Chicago, probably because of the absence of police (who were busy with the looters).
Btw, many white immigrant neighborhoods had these problems in earlier generations - the Italians with the mafia families, the Irish with their politically connected thugs, etc. The true prejudice against blacks is thinking that this should be the norm for their neighborhoods and that the police should just shrug and walk away.

A black man has a far greater likelihood - statistically, which has no context - being killed by a another civilian black man, than by a white cop or any cop at all.

In raw numbers, blacks murder whites about twice as often as the other way around. In 2018, per FBI stats, blacks killed 514 whites, versus 234 blacks killed by whites. That’s more than double. As a percentage of the population, blacks are about 450% more likely to commit an interracial murder than whites.
Maybe blacks are 2.5 more likely to be violent towards police.

Those are all the good questions the BLM and all their new fellow travelers do not want asked.
Facts are facts and to talk about blacks and all sorts of blacks encounters with police, and leave crime, and black on black crime out of the conversation only means one thing - someone is asking all to ignore the elephant in the room.
The two - blacks enoounters with police and black crime rates are so statistically related leaving the latter out of the conversation can only be a political agenda, not a search for solutions.
My alternative title suggestion:

Unlike the article you correctly point out that criminality not population would be the correct measure when dealing with police contact. Per the 2017 FBI statistics (latest available I think) blacks accounted for 2,221,697 of 8,162,849 arrests. 27.2%. If a group is accounting for 27.2% of arrests, I wouldn't be surprised they account for around 24% of police fatal shootings. It fits. For people with fits, they should should focus on the fact that 13% of the population commits 27% of the crimes. In fact when you look at violent crime, that 13% commit 53% of murder/manslaughter, 29% of rapes, 54% of robberys, 34% Aggravated assault, 30% burglary. Violent crimes which might trigger violent congrontations.
