Muni says it won't transport SFPD to protests: 'We have a lot of work to do'

Just hours before SFMTA bus drivers halted service for eight minutes and 46 seconds to symbolically memorialize the life of George Floyd, the transit agency made another monumental decision.

As several demonstrations continued to take place throughout the Bay Area on Tuesday, Muni announced it would no longer transport officers from the San Francisco Police Department to protests.

This news comes after the transit agency was criticized on social media for videos uploaded by users showing officers in riot gear departing packed buses in downtown San Francisco earlier this month.

The transit agency said it was making efforts to advance its racial equity work and support communities of color.

"We want to be clear about the SFMTA’s commitments going forward. We have an opportunity as agents of change," wrote SFMTA.

The organization said it will prioritize "agency-wide implicit bias training" in addition to building upon its equity strategy to improve service performance in San Francisco neighborhoods with high percentages of people of color in low-income households.

Then the bus drivers will be arrested, charged with interference with police operations, fingerprinted, drug tested, etc.

If this is the case, then why would the SFPD even bother responding to calls from the SFMTA?

The only solution seems to be self protection. I strongly advocate a women’s militia unit, well taught, No sane and intelligent woman should be without a concealed weapon permit and know how to use it (and that would include a “fast draw”).

And, I neglected to add, active participation in protecting all laws that protect the 2nd Amendment.

Wouldn’t a concealed weapon permit be mute if there’s no enforcement? Actually, that might be a good thing to clean up the streets.

This is strange. Muni is owned by the city. So how does a department of the City get to declare that they will not provide service to the police?

They can not, unless..

Unless the power to be in the City (and county) of San Francisco wants them to deny service to the police.

So this is just one more way the City officials screw over the taxpayers of the city.

Sounds like a Supreme Court case to me. Can you be refused city services due to your job or political stance?
Put another way, can the police refuse to protect the Mayor?
Ha.
