Know Your Enemy: China
American Thinker ^ | David Archibald

If you want to understand why China will attack us, the place to start is the old U.S. Department of War film, Know Your Enemy: Japan, made the last time we were attacked by a major Asian power that was transitioning from its feudal past.

The Japanese in WWII were driven by their creation myth which says that they were founded by an emperor called Jimmu in 660 B.C. Jimmu had a philosophy called Hakko Ichiu which means that “let us extend the capitol and cover the eight corners of the world under one roof.” As per this still from the film:

“From the viewpont of Hakko Ichiu the Emperor of Japan is the emperor of all the races of the world.” And in 1930, a Japanese general wrote a plan to achieve that. First they would conquer Asia, then sink the U.S. fleet which would allow a landing on the west coast of America. The Japanese built up their industrial base making cheap goods for export as a means to that end, rather than the commonly held view that it was for a better life.

The Chinese version of Hakko Ichiu is called Tianxia under which China gets to rule the rest of the world. It has nothing to do with communism. In fact the trigger for the coming war -- China’s bases in the South China Sea -- were claimed by the Nationalist Chinese in 1947. The decades of poverty and backwardness under Mao caused a delay of a few decades for just that aim. But when it comes, China’s war, like Japan’s before it, will be a race war. And race wars are the nastiest of them all.

Like a lot of Freepers, I try to stay on top of the China issue. I have no doubt that China is already at war with the "free" world, but, frankly, I thought that was because of the CCP, not because of something inherent in Chinese culture.

Given that, I am not quite sure what to make of this article. This entire POV is new to me as is the concept of Tianxia.

I will file this under "food for thought" until I have an opportunity to see what some of the so-called China experts say on the subject.

It’s not a race war. It’s a fame war. In power relations terms rather than ideological, this is like pre-WWII Germany (China) and Japan (Russia) all over again, with Xi and Putin both making their bids for fame (or infamy, if they fail).

I’ve never subscribed to the theory that national leaders acquire land by force because of political or economic necessity, though. Publicly, they’ll justify these efforts that way, because the soldiers risking their lives and the loved ones they leave behind don’t want to hear that the war is being waged so their leaders can become famous for posterity. An Olympic athlete or a mountain climber can straightforwardly own up to his personal ambition because all that’s at risk is his personal investment in the task he has set for himself. A national leader cannot, for obvious reasons.

In fact, how do you distinguish between desperation and simple ambition? I don’t think you can. IMHO, Xi believes China has finally become strong enough to make these ventures the kind of bet a gambling man might take odds on. The shibboleth of our time is that war is hell, and no leader ever embarks on it except out of desperation. It’s, however, contrary to most of what we know about history. Leaders go to war for the same reason athletes compete in the Olympics - for personal fame and glory.

Kings go to war not because they need to, but because they want to. What they’re after is to make a name for themselves that will stand the test of time. By a country mile, the most famous Greek is Alexander, just as the most famous Roman is Caesar. That’s no accident. For better or for worse, conquerors will always have a special place in the history books. War is like a large scale hunt in which the guy who organized it and brought home a lot of trophies puts his name in neon lights for posterity.

Heck, even the losers become famous in ways nobody expected. Without his disastrous loss at Carrhae, just how well-known would the richest man in Rome, Crassus, be?

People who go on about Xi Jinping needing a distraction from domestic problems are ignoring everything we know about history. Chinese leaders are made in the mold of the leaders of powerful countries since probably the dawn of time - they did not sign up for their jobs to become glorified administrators/security people for accountants and financiers. They are building this wealth so they can construct an army to acquire fame for themselves. Alexander and Caesar accumulated wealth to fight wars. They didn’t fight wars to accumulate wealth. The end game was, first and foremost, eternal fame, or infamy, if they failed.

Saddam Hussein had all the money he needed. What he wanted was to be mentioned in the same breath as Saladin. Even in failure, he has placed his name in a more prominent position than any of his Arab contemporaries, with the exception of bin Laden.

At present, the most dangerous enemy of America is the leftist Democrat party. They recently bowed down in worship of some unnamef African god.

They allowed, even promoted the destruction, pillaging and looting of American cities.

China did not do that. Russia did notdo that. Iran did not do that. not do that

I have always believed that when countries have too much to lose, then peace ensues. China has way too much to lose right now.

The first casualties of a hot war would be the twin evils of free trade and off shoring. Awesome!!!

The slimeballs who sold out the American working class, I call them Free Traitors™, ( like you ) were a major factor in f-ing up the USA.

Nice try you gloBULL stooge. Do your Chinese handlers write your BS or do you make it up yourself?

“China” isn’t emperor. Xi Jinping is. Xi has way too much to lose if he doesn’t move now. Alexander began his quest for eternal fame at the age of 20. By his death at the age of 32, he had succeeded to an extent probably few of his comtemporaries expected when he began. Xi Jinping is 66. If he takes about as much time as Alexander to put his name in neon lights, he’ll be 78 when he’s done. Alexander was in peak physical and mental shape when he started. Xi is battling the physical and mental decline we all go through starting in our 30’s. He needs to get his ass in gear so he can become one of the greats, before his mind goes on him.

Actually, the Democrat Party has been taken over by the Extreme Left which is a product of years of indoctrination by institutions (including academia) which were bought and paid for by communists (and, to a lesser extent, by some wealthy Arabs eager to spread Islam).

Those people rioting and looting are mere foot soldiers.

I agree. I am afraid the whole Republican party is not aware of this or the media’s successful distortion of facts. And since many in the rural areas are not fascinated with the news and certainly not the disagreements arising from the national media, they may yet be bamboozeled into believing virtually everything they read in print aka a newspaper owned by one of the big 5 democrats.
