Gone With the Wind, the Civil War epic considered a classic of American cinema, has been pulled from HBO Max.
The move comes as media companies reappraise content in light of nationwide protests over police brutality and systemic racism after the death of George Floyd, a Black man killed by Minnesota police. Earlier on Tuesday, Paramount Network cancelled the long-running police reality show Cops.
Long considered controversial for its depiction of Black people and its rose tinted view of slavery, Gone With the Wind faced renewed scrutiny after an op-ed by 12 Years A Slave screenwriter John Ridley published in the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday. In the op-ed, Ridley called on HBO Max to "consider removing" Gone With the Wind from its platform as the film had its "own unique problem." "It doesnt just fall short with regard to representation. It is a film that glorifies the antebellum south. It is a film that, when it is not ignoring the horrors of slavery, pauses only to perpetuate some of the most painful stereotypes of people of color," Ridley wrote.

They did this to attract attention to HBO Max, a new streaming service that needs help standing out from others.

It took the South a LONG time to recover.
NO GLORY in their own created poverty.
I wonder what the "next revolution" will protest? All our wealth? Our HUGE arsenal of weapons, air craft carriers, jet fighters? Our gold at Fort Knox?
Will we have to listen to the ranting of aholes like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts?
If they HATE the USA so much why don't they go live in Bangladesh, anywhere south of our border, Africa, Asia...or to the South of THIS country?
My money is on Trump. He can handle them with one hand tied behind his back.
Better watch Blazing Saddles while you still can.
One of the great films of all time.
“Went with the Wind!”
So hilarious.
it’s gone way beyond protesting- straight into criminal activities- murder- looting, burning- assaults-
They have waged a war against society- all based on the lie of ‘rampant deadly police brutality towards unarmed minorities’ (Which is a lie- just two unarmed black folks were killed unjustifiably all of last year- and the officers involved were convicted- while 54 police were murdered- or shot in line of duty)
This is why we need physical libraries, with actual books, tapes, dvds, etc.
The communists are determined to censor away all knowledge of the past, all traffic of free ideas.
White Men Can’t Jump next...didn’t think so.

My ancestors were persecuted by the Romans, can we erase Gladiator?

“Hey, we heard you was hung”...
One of the funniest lines ever!
Riiiiight... the hollywood reporter describes an OP-Ed by a writer of 12 years a Slave (now there’s a “representative” movie, making him an “expert” in re-writing history) calling the movie “......a film that glorifies the antebellum south. It is a film that, when it is not ignoring the horrors of slavery, pauses only to perpetuate some of the most painful stereotypes of people of color,” Ridley wrote.
.......”It is a film that, as part of the narrative of the Lost Cause, romanticizes the Confederacy in a way that continues to give legitimacy to the notion that the secessionist movement was something more, or better, or more noble than what it was a bloody insurrection...”
Gone With the Wind (the book) is NOT about glorifying the antebellum South. It is about and whirlwind of change that surrounded a fictional family and individual characters (who were not aristocrats- the main Tara owner is a low class Irish immigrant who scrambled up the ladder, for example). It is about the hopeless people who could never adjust because of their “system” (Ashley and his sickly wife), and the ones who could because they never had any consciousness about themselves except as “in the moment” (Scarlett) or immensely pragmatic (Rhett).
This “writer” has an axe to grind, a social justice self aggrandizing axe that serves only one purpose— political, not artistic and not even willing to let it remain as a statement of 1936 era— a time of the rise of Naziism, and World War II escapism. This “writer” in short is a needling chicken shite political operative with no talent even remotely close to the kind of artwork needed to put on an epic fictional history, that is in NO WAY supporting the “Lost Cause”.
Can’t wait until they take “The Longest Day” off the marketing and playing platforms because the Soviets really won World War II .
This is truly just amazing. And-— HBO does as their told by a nobody nabob who demands political correct ‘art’ that NO-one will watch, so his politics will kill what is left of Hollywood. Disgusting.
No doubt Hattie McDaniel’s kids need to publicly kneel and apologize while smashing the Oscar.
All mention of Hattie McDaniel in history books must be erased as well.
