The city of Jacksonville’s inventory for Confederate memorials lists three monuments and eight markers on city property related to the Civil War.
As of Tuesday morning, there was one less, and Mayor Lenny Curry said the others are coming down, too.
Crews were seen overnight using a crane to remove a Confederate monument in Jacksonville’s Hemming Park, the downtown city plaza framed on two sides by City Hall and the Federal Courthouse. The statue and nameplate were hauled off well before daylight, leaving an empty pedestal.

I agree on Lenny Curry. His Covid restrictions were more severe than those of the state and I think DeSantis had to have a chat with him about this. Curry is, like all RINOs, trying to prove his bona fides to the left. What he doesn’t realize is that they don’t care, and they’ll still hate him.
So what’s next? The statue of Andrew Jackson. Btw, I think Jackson was horrible. He hated Catholics, Spanish speakers and blacks. He was not only a cruel slaveholder but sent slave catchers after his escaped slaves...and rewarded them if they would beat or torture the slaves before sending them back. He was also responsible for that horrible incident of the black fort.
But be that as it may, he was an historical reality, important to the people of the time, had an impact on history and local history, and its perfectly legitimate to have a statute of him. We’re not worshipping him, just commemorating that moment in our history .
Everything could easily be explained on informational plaques or signs around any of these statues, But that’s not what they want...not knowledge and understanding, but propaganda and hatred.
When the word ‘slavery’ is no longer in our vocabulary, WE WILL ALL BE SLAVES........................

The name “Jacksonville” is a well known brand, endlessly promoted by the Chamber of Commerce. Worth million of dollars.

Im not entirely sure — but that has been a total fiasco as well. The guy just gives me the creeps. I dont believe he is a conservative. So what are we going to do, rename Jacksonville? I shudder to think of the possible names, and since I dont want to get zotted (Just learned that lingo after 18 years of hanging around here), I will not proffer any examples.

You can’t pick and choose which parts of history to erase. It is not a la carte You have to erase it all.
I actually do some work in Clay county — I drive the friggin Stands Bridge every day — today it was foggy. That bridge is creepy in almost no visibility. I almost took the 295 bridge to avoid that 1.4 miles of white knuckle driving. When (and where) are they building the bridge — I thought it was more toward WGV.
But I gotta tell you the 301 stake bypass is beautiful and the defunding of the Waldo police for corruption with speeding traps has made my trip to G’ville a pleasant drive instead of a 2 hour grind.
Little old Green Cover Springs is the land that time forgot. And its big sister Palatka — wow that is a different sort of place.
