~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Naval Air Facility El Centro, California Naval Air Facility El Centro or NAF El Centro is a United States Navy Naval Air Facility located approximately six miles northwest of El Centro, in Imperial County, California. NAF El Centro is under the jurisdiction of Navy Region Southwest and serves both as temporary homeport to military units conducting air-to-air and bombing training, and as the winter training home of the Blue Angels. The facility has two operating runways. The 9,503-foot (2,897 m) eastwest runway handles 96 percent of the traffic. It is equipped with a Fresnel Lens Optical Landing System (FLOLS) at each approach end as well as lit carrier flight deck landing areas at both ends so pilots can simulate carrier landings. Apart from "touch and go" landings and take-offs, aircrews use the many ranges at NAF El Centro to develop their skills. A remote-controlled target area allows naval aviators and naval flight officers to practice ordnance delivery. The desert range is used for air-to-ground bombing, rocket firing, strafing, dummy drops and mobile land target training. The target complex uses the Weapons Impact Scoring System that microwaves target images to a range master control building for immediate verification of weapons delivery accuracy. The addition of the Display and Debriefing Subsystem, known as DDS, expanded the role of NAF El Centro to include air combat training by utilizing remote television, acoustical and laser scoring systems. The DDS is linked with the Tactical Air Crew Training System (TACTS) to provide a computerized record of the tactics employed by individual aircrews to employ and to evaluate the effectiveness of each maneuver.
The facility is also home to the British Joint Helicopter Force (US) which is part of Joint Helicopter Command. Learn More About Naval Air Facility El Centro HERE!! FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT~Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.

We pray for your safety, that you will return to your families and friends soon. We pray that your hope, courage, and dignity remain unbroken, so that you may show others the way. It's 210 feet below sea level in the Imperial Valley. The valley used to be called the Salton Sink, but once it was connected to the state's irrigation system, they thought the new name would attract more farmers to work the valley.
One of Robert Heinlein's short stories from his pulp fiction days is about an earthquake and tsunami causing the Gulf of California to reclaim the valley.

June 9Our Reason for Joy
Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King.
Psalm 149:2When the school year began, fourteen-year-old C.J. would hop off the bus every afternoon and dance down his driveway. His mom recorded and shared videos of C.J.s after-school boogie time. He danced because he enjoyed life and making people happy with every move. One day, two garbage collectors took time out of their busy work schedule to stomp, spin, and sway with the young boy who inspires others to dance with him. This trio demonstrates the power of sincere and infectious joy.
The writer of Psalm 149 describes the original source of enduring and unconditional joyGod. The psalmist encourages Gods people to join together and sing to the Lord a new song (v. 1). He invites Israel to rejoice in their Maker and be glad in their King (v. 2). He calls us to worship Him with dancing and music (vv. 13). Why? Because the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory (v. 4).
Our adoring Father created us and sustains the universe. He delights in us just because were His beloved children. He designed us, knows us, and invites us into a personal relationship with Him. What an honor! Our loving and living God is our reason for everlasting joy. We can rejoice in the gift of His constant presence and be grateful for every day our Maker has given us.

Reflect & Pray
Why does knowing God delights in us encourage joy in all circumstances? How can you express your joy in the Lord throughout the day?
Thanks for loving us, delighting in us, and knowing us, God.

I used to go to El Centro frequently for exercises while I was stationed at Camp Pendleton. I loved the heat and also watching the Blue Angels practice (it was their winter home).

Enjoy this special program, recorded on location at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia, USA. Though we cannot gather, we still honor the valor, fidelity, and sacrifice of those who fought and died to end Nazi tyranny over Europe 76 years ago.

Yes! To another cool base in CA.
I'd love to just drive up Hwy 101 again.
And stop some along the way.
Didn't get to do that traveling with my son.
Goal oriented, you see. LOL!
