The black-clothed Antifa activists who are leading the anti-police riots are mostly the discarded, angry college-grade workforce of an increasingly high-tech, globalized economy, say a variety of experts and millennials.
Colleges are producing many “graduates who’ve absorbed a worldview that trains them for “metropolitan elite” job types that turn out to be far scarcer than the graduates competing for them,” writes Mary Harrington, a young writer at Unherd.com. She continues:
The result is a frustrated would-be middle class, treading water in what the writer Venkatesh Rao has called ‘premium mediocre’ lifestyles, a rented simulacrum of a genuinely prosperous existence designed to signal preparedness for the day when, by luck or application, they make it into the dwindling numbers of the real bourgeoisie.
These graduate left-behinds are then stuck in a holding pattern, in precarious housing and employment, as opportunities to take the big steps into adult life — traditionally home ownership, coupledom and kids – recede ever further into the distance. A recent Pew report showed 30% of millennials living with a spouse and child, a fall of 10% on Generation X and a whopping 40% drop on the 1968 generation. That’s America, but ONS data shows the age of first child climbing relentlessly in Britain too — while the birth rate is falling in all cohorts save the over-40s.

The plethora of dead end degree graduates is a scandal all its own.
Most STEM degrees are not even in the top 10 of degrees awarded.
Colleges promise new students they will have many job opportunities if they major in Psychology (#3) , Education (#6), & Communications (#7), but those jobs don’t exist.
So stop the wholesale offshoring of jobs and these people (and many, many others) will be able to obtain good jobs and buy houses. The “service economy” is a joke and the “gig economy” is a hoax.
So some punk geek wastes $120K on a useless degree with no jobs. Instead of thinking about that before he takes out the loans, he decides instead to hate the country.
Here’s a better idea Sparky, go burn down the college admission f=offices that were the actual people who lied to you.
Or, maybe you should have done some research before you started school.
One of my kids is a geek. He got a real degree in a hard science, got a great college job in his field as a junior which paid for his last two years of school. Debts were paid off within a year of graduating.
Instead of dressing in a clown suit and inciting riots, he just goes to work every day.
You can do great as a plumber plus no debt
Big tech companies also hire only the best. Even if you have the degree and are competent, they lock you out if you cannot meet their standards.

Lot of “make-work” jobs in the social sciences.
While I thin that we are overusing visas for workers, too many people also have the mindset that if they have a certain credential, They are to be handed a certain type of job and have that source of income be it.
I lost income from my regular job in the confinement. I found a little 5-10 hour a week job that is close to making up the difference.
I’ve been told that I “shouldn’t have to do that.” Why not?
Not only do they have useless degrees, they have a huge sense of entitlement. I would rather hire a hardworking, ambitious foreigner than an American socialist who thinks all whites are racist.
Teacher jobs are only available to those who are “woke”, and identified as such by their professors during the degree program - the professors vet and screen the degree candidates prior to graduation.
I know. I now have a useless Masters in Education - a field where a straight-white-male-veteran-55+ is neither wanted nor welcome.
Between ignorant parents, useless schools and a pathological reliance on technology, these young Americans have arrived at the age of 25 totally ill-equipped for anything more complex than video games.
I want to slam you as being anti-American, or some kind of H1B lobbyist, but I am having a hard time refuting what you say. You’re right.
The primary standard, of course, is that you have a good, solid H1B status.

Worked at Jimmy Johns to learn the food business
While working there, he and his buddy, having noticed in a college town (not where they lived) that delivery of fresh baked goods to the student dorms was doing well, decided to do that in our home town.
Moved out of my place at 23 and shared a 4-bedroom rental with 3 other guys for $600 a month rent
Used that house to start their food business (delivery only) AT NIGHT after working during the day. They would deliver until 1:30am.
When they reached the state’s limit of $15,000 per year of out of house food sales, decided to find a place to continue to grow.
They found a Cafe that closed at 3:00pm and asked the owner if they could sublease 7:00pm to 1:00am for their business and was able to negotiate a much cheaper rent than if they signed a leaase for their own place.
It’s taken off so well they are now going to be moving into their own place on July 1st.
Besides his AA, his business partner, (who DID NOT GO TO COLLEGE but has been a high-end construction crew leader) is handling the build out of the new space, in downtwon Boca Raton.
The old saying about the C students starting the business and hiring the A and B students is alive and well . . . IF the A student is worth it, which in many instances they aren’t worth diddly.
And now here he is at age 25, a partner in a business that going to be worth a million dollars by next year.

Most of the foreigners are socialists who become citizens and vote democrat.
They simply retain their immature entitlement status the Universities and parents have indoctrinated them to once they’re out..... And further the losers drop out because they find they don’t want to do the hard work required to learn what they’re there for...
Add in fact once in the workforce they’re the most whining, immature brats you avoid at all costs.
Not just the colleges “ fault”. Many arrive at college unprepared or reluctant to actually do the work needed to pass STEM programs. They seek to downsize into somewhat related fields in the science schools where they can BS their way to a degree. Saw it with step son. Computer design became computer graphics (not CAD, marketing using existing software). Now driving a sanitation truck.
The damage done by our “education” system is incalculable. Turning out Marxist lefties rather than productive society members. We let it happen on our watch so we are not innocent in what happened.
Sociology majors thinking their major would lead to a high paying job in socialism. Duh!
