As concerns over self-defense became more pronounced in 2020, initially during the cornonavirus hysteria and then during the current spate of protests and riots, two million Americans became first-time gun owners.
On Wednesday the NRA tweeted:
Earlier this week Breitbart News reported that May 2020 shattered the record for the number of National Instant Criminal Background System (NICS) checks performed in a given May. FBI numbers show 3,091,455 NICS checks were conducted in May 2020, easily surpassing the previous record of 2,349,309 checks set in May 2019 and dominating the numbers from any other May since records began to be kept in May 1999.

Yeah because “blm, antifa members and other assorted communists” totally are going to gun stores to make sure they are on record with names for firearms they are going to use to commit crimes or shoot cops.

I don’t see any of them swinging left AND buying a gun.
These are legal gun owners. Willing to go through a process.
Well over two million background checks.
But nothing to indicate how many were actually first time buyers.
What is sad is the small number of NRA members in America.
When over two million background checks are done in a month the NRA should pick up at least 100 thousand new members. Yet new member numbers are stagnant.

Over here the handeling of permits stopped 3 months back because of the coronavirus but as soon as it all is back again I can register the Ruger GP-100 I bought and more coming.
I believe because of the FBI data, they need to do a background check.
