A York City police officer was taken out of the field after officials received a complaint that hed reenacted the police-custody death of Minneapolis resident George Floyd at a party.
Mayor Michael Helfrich responded to the allegations against the officer on Facebook, urging residents to record everything so it is easier to prove fact from fiction.
The officer in question is on desk duty while the incident is investigated, he said.
The police officer has been removed from public service and has been assigned to desk service until that we can complete the collection of evidence and testimonies, a process required by law. A city is not like a business. I cant just fire someone based on an allegation without an investigation, Helfrich said. This is the best I can do for now.
Police havent commented on the allegations. The York Dispatch reported that the off-duty officer reenacted the death at a college graduation party in front of two black women, both of whom told the newspaper theyve spoken to internal affairs investigators.
The York City Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from PennLive.
Demonstrations have surged in central Pennsylvania cities such as York and Harrisburg over the last week after a video went viral of a handcuffed Floyd being restrained.

Floyd a 46-year-old black man accused of trying to pass a counterfeit bill died on May 25 after white Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin put his knee on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
He and three other officers at the scene were fired and now face charges in Floyds death.
Chauvin is charged with second and third-degree murder. The three others are accused of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and manslaughter.

FReepmail me to be added to the list.
That’s the kind of stupid you just can’t fix.
Maybe he was trying to show somebody how to restrain an agitated 6’6” career criminal that is stoned out of his gourd.
But the mayor tweeting this red flag, brown shirt BS doesn’t help...”This is why I am telling people to video everything. If we had video of what he is accused of, he could be gone already.”
And the department suspends him for doing the public service...
That is my suspicion about what happened.
So now its illegal to be a moron?
Did he kill someone also?
So, as a general rule, if we see the police out in the street doing their job, they won't mind if we video them? Because sometimes they ask people to turn off the cameras ...
Not sure how this works.
If you “re-enact” the events that led to someone’s death at a party, you’re “investigated” and potentially fired.
If you loot, attack the police, burn down cities and threaten people you’re a “protestor” and, if you’re unlucky enough to be arrested, you’re sure to be let out the next day anyway so you can do it all over again.
Does something seem a little off-kilter here?
Maybe they should Charge the Officer with an (Unconstitutional) Hate Crime.
That should appease everyone.
What should be the Punishment, the Death Penalty or Life without Parole?
Inquiring Minds want to know.
and then the officer sued the city and made millions.
I dont even know what re-enacted the death means. Was he trying to show someone how such a hold can be deadly? Was he making fun of the victim? Very unclear.
I'm curious as to what law he broke. I guess it is the two black women sensibility law. He may have had poor social judgement, but I am not going to even say that. Being the curious guy I am, I would be interested in seeing what this officer was trained to do.
Stories like this reinforce my behaviors. Is it safe for me to invite black people to a party? I might say something wrong and a police investigation will occur. And to be an equal opportunity guy that I am, I shouldn't invite any leftists or Karens to a party. Dividing America for our own protection.
I'm having a little get together tonight - BBQ if the weather holds out. I better text everybody to see if they voted for Trump before they come over. I actually don't talk much politics socially, but these riots will certainly be discussed. It's on everyone's mind.
Hey, folks. secretly film your neighbors; kids, secretly film your parents. We know where this is going.
So, the question is, was he just stupid and thought it would be funny?
Or, did someone at the party say “I don’t understand why police kneel like that”, and he said “Well, they did it wrong, but done right it is a reasonable and not dangerous hold”. “Hey, can you show me”, “sure: Here’s how it is supposed to be done, and here is how it was being done on the video, see how much that second one is worse, and see how the first one controls you”?
(Person on teh other side of room: “Hey New York Times, I want to be famous, I just saw a cop re-enacting the Floyd murder and laughing about it”.
I have NO IDEA what the actual story is.
