Reports and rumors that groups bent on rioting and violence in Coeur dAlene brought out men and women with guns on Monday determined to stop them if they arrive.
Dan Carson was patrolling Sherman Avenue with an AR-12 automatic 12-gauge across his chest, an AR-15 strapped to his back, two 9mm handguns holstered and a .38 special, too.
I heard there are some people on the way who shouldnt be here, he said early Monday evening.
Those people, he said, were Antifa and Proud Boys, militant far-left and far-right groups.
Carson said he was in Spokane Sunday night helping protect business there. He said he supports the right to protest and is also upset about the death of George Floyd.
By all means. Im on their side. I disagree with what happened, he said. What I dont agree with is when you turn to violence, and you start rioting and destroying businesses and hurting people who have nothing to do with anything.
Thats what Im here to hopefully prevent, he said, adding, Im not going to be alone. Theres a lot more on the way.
He was right. Soon, more armed men, self-described as a loosely formed group of patriots, arrived. They took up posts at corners on both sides of Sherman Avenue.
Later, they were joined by hundreds of citizens packing rifles, semi-automatic weapons, handguns, and bows and arrows. The sidewalks were packed with people walking up and down Sherman Avenue, firearms proudly displayed for all to see. They carried guns, had them holstered around their hips and had them strapped across their backs.

I have walked along Sherman Ave myself many times over the years from Eagles to Crafted.
Great to see. Love Idaho. I usually come out every July for the Inland Lumber Producers convention at the resort.
God bless these peace keepers.
>>>Idaho is constitutional carry no permit needed to carry concealed. Open carry obviously also 100% legal<<<
One of the Free States, just like where we live in MS.
Can’t believe Texas still doesn’t allow Constitutional Carry though.
That is their unofficial uniform. You see it everywhere along with their backpack to carry supplies.
An Armed Society is a Polite Society.
And nobody looked frightened
Maybe someone can describe this better than me. When I have been around folks like the ones in the article I feel at ease. I know people, mostly progressives and even some Karen Republicans, that are scared to death at seeing someone open carry. I don't hang out with people that are tacticool, not my crowd, but I'll talk to them at a rally just like would with anyone else is there. Should I be more concerned (situationally aware) or the ones that are scared need to lighten up?
Maybe it's racism, they are carrying black weapons.
Antifa folks are actually yellow cowards and would never come into that sort of prepared town. But what you see in the video and the fact that these patriots have stopped the left from invading their town is exactly why the lunatic left hates the 2nd amendment.
And it should be legal everywhere.
And did Antifa show up and riot? What about Montana and Wyoming?
There’s a whole range from guys who don’t know which end of the gun to pick up to ex Special Ops.
Forgot to mention a good buddy of mine and his son were patrolling last night at Riverstone, the WinCo Foods and on Sherman last night. He said there had to be 500 armed patriots on patrol.
And THIS brothers and sisters, is why I live in North Idaho!
Thanks for those insights. Didn’t know those things.
Just talked to a buddy of mine on patrol last night in CdA. He said that he all the others on patrol support the First Amendment 100% — as long as protest and assembly are peaceful. Just as we would all expect.
Exactly right. Can you imagine how this would play out without 2A?
CdA handled this perfectly, absolutely perfectly. I just wish the president would see this and call for more a CdA approach.
The “Team America” theme song comes to mind. :^)
My Dad lived in Hayden (near Cd’A) for a while. A large majority of his neighbors were retired LEO from around the West.
Lots of sheepdogs in the video!
My grandparents retired to Hayden in 1966 when I was in my teens, so I spent a fair amount of time visiting them on family trips. Fell in love with the place back then. Mom was born up the road in Sandpoint in 1927, so family roots there go way back.
Yes indeed, LOTS of retired LEOs and firefighters around us from all over the west.
