Payback for a lawsuit Blyly filed against the city a few years ago?
What Would Mohammed Do? What Would Mao Do? What Would Karl Do? Etc., etc.
I feel truly bad for the good citizens who have lost so much.
But I really hope federal dollars don’t flood in to “fix things”. The Mayors and the Governors need to own this problem and they need to fix the damage and they need to find a way to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Sending in billions of federal dollars, on the other hand, will pretty much guarantee that it WILL happen again. Because everybody likes that free money.
<<Uncle Hugos was known in the often politically contentious science fiction community as a place where good books and good storytelling was prized above all else.
The Science Fiction Community has only become politically contentious in the modern era, Thanks Obama.
comic book and sf conventions weren’t this way for 50 years. Fandom focused on other things. But in the last 10+ years they’ve become rallies for Alphabet people and old white males are reviled at awards ceremonies and panels. The older guests and attendees are confronted and insulted.
Seems like the Soros Terrorist Group has had this planned for a very long time and was just waiting for some event to initiate the riots.
I first thought the killing was random, but knowing that the cop and the victim knew each other and had both been security officers for the same company tells me there was a bad blood personal grudge present. This wasn’t a random killing by a cop. This was a murder of opportunity.
Exactly.
Notice no books were looted...
When outsiders come in to help you understand youre part of the problem, they dont care about your treasures. They want to know why you dont treasure what they treasure which is nothing.
Did they at least save a copy of Fahrenheit 451?
Just like Obama did. Destroy respected American/Apple Pie traditions and institutions.
Obama did this to the military, marriage and the Boy Scouts all at once. Look for statues, historical homes of meaning, libraries and other cherished buildings to go up in flames. Anything to do with decency and American history.
Nazi book burners.
>>The economic value of new buildings in replaceable in cities, Jacobs writes. But the economic value of old buildings is irreplaceable at will. It is created by time. This economic requisite for diversity is a requisite that vital city neighborhoods can only inherit, and then sustain over the years
This is true whether the destruction of the old is because of subsidized “Revitalization” or economic starvation by forced shutdowns (hello Coronavirus) or riots.
And what replaces it is an urban strip mall with a Starbucks, sneaker store, “Barnes & Noble”, and GAP.
Make everyplace the same. Make everyone conform to the mediocrity. To get everyone onboard promote FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Have you had the candied pepper blue cheese burger for $20 yet? All of your comrades have already social media checked in that they beat you to it!!!
Barbarians burn books—every time.
If it was City Lights in SF you’d be hearing in the world press and libraries about how tragic a loss it was.
Some other niche of literature? Eh, not so much.
The rioters should have stopped to think about where they were going to go to get their recreational reading materials if they burned these buildings.

The thugs cannot read, therefore, they dont need books.
>>When will Lincoln be chained and dragged out of his comfy chair at his memorial?
They’ve already spray painted the Lincoln Memorial this riot.
Built in the 1920s, it wasn’t until the reign of Obama that it was vandalized and now it has been marred something like 4 or 5 times.
What changed? There has been civil unrest before. There have been militant Communists before.
I have a very large science fiction book collection—almost all of it in the pre-Obozo era.
Most of it is so politically incorrect that snowflakes would immediately melt if they came into contact with it.
Current science fiction is best understood as comedy—ya know, Africa leading a new technological revolution, stuff like that... ;-)
