Text of statement:
The NFL family is greatly saddened by the tragic events across our country. The protesters' reactions to these incidents reflect the pain, anger and frustration that so many of us feel.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Mr. George Floyd and to those who have lost loved ones, including the families of Ms. Breonna Taylor in Louisville, and Mr. Ahmaud Arbery, the cousin of Tracy Walker of the Detroit Lions.
As current events dramatically underscore, there remains much more to do as a country and as a league. These tragedies inform the NFL's commitment and our ongoing efforts. There remains an urgent need for action. We recognize the power of our platform in communities and as part of the fabric of American society. We embrace that responsibility and are committed to continuing the important work to address these systemic issues together with our players, clubs and partners.
- NFL Commissioner Robert Goodell
I’m the ONLY Freeper who did NOT watch the Super Bowl. 4 straight times and counting..
Roger Wilco.
Negro Felon L, I like that
Hmmm. NFL. Where have I heard those letters before? Oh, yeah! The ThugSport league whose Democrat friends turned on them and arent going to let them play this Fall. Do you think anyone will still remember they exist by August, 2021? :)
wrong, never here
I think that to show leadership in this matter the NFL should voluntarily shutdown for this coming season. That would be heart felt and I’m sure the rioters would reapect that.
As if anyone needed more reasons to NOT watch these overpayed assclowns.
Yeah, the “protesters” are just SO SINCERE
Just STFU you sorry ass-kissing bigots
I watched the first Super Bowl. It was not even a sell out.
Green Bay was awesome. Bart Starr was MVP. What a name for a star QB.
Pandering to their demographics.
Where’s the condemnation of the violence, you POS
I swear, we would have lost WW II with these snowflakes in charge
I can top that easily.
Not a stupor bowl since the early 80s.
No, you’re NOT the only Freeper who didn’t watch the Superbowl. I haven’t watched it since the 90s.
If you re-read that, not that you'd want to ... it says ... quite literally ... nothing. It says 'We are extremely virtuous! And we are not going to do anything, but we are committed to our embrace of our shared responsibility! Family and virtue and we are good people! Systemic Issues! And brave and committed and virtuous and responsible together!!!! And family! We are the NFL! Brave, Committed, Responsible, Virtuous!
I have to be sympathetic and respectful to FReepers who can’t help it because they love football so they went back to caring about the NFL. Even talk radio hosts like Bill Cunningham.
Not me. Still boycotting.
I will not dignify them after their taking a knee and not kicking out Colin K. And their wimpy virtue signaling in the past. America is a great country and gives opportunity to NFL athletes to make many millions. Don’t tread on us for that. Honor our flag.
As for me, for some reason I quit caring about all sports back then.
I can’t start my boycott of the NFL, since I have already been boycotting them since the Kapernick disaster.
Goodell is a useless &^%$*&^%.....
They are hurting. They just canned almost 70 percent of NFL films and network.
you can take them out of the jungle but cannot take the jungle out of them”as the old adage goes “
Remember NFL, if your white fans desert you, you have nothing. No stadiums, no ticket sales, no TV viewership, no league, nothing.
You’re just a damn game, and if you want to continue making money to pay yourselves and the players then you might want to ponder that, before you get all political.
