ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. A Minneapolis police officer seen on video kneeling on the neck of George Floyd before his death in police custody has not left the Midwest to live in his west Orange County home, deputies said Friday.
Rumors on social media swirled overnight that Derek Chauvin, one of four Minneapolis police officers fired after the incident, relocated to his Central Florida home after protests following Floyds death turned violent in Minneapolis.
Orange County deputies released a statement on Twitter Friday stating that Chauvin is not at his home and has no plans to come to the area after protesters gathered in front of his Windermere home.
Minnesota officials announced just after 1 p.m. that Chauvin had been taken into custody.
For the safety of our community, we have verified that the Minneapolis Police Department officer with a home in Windermere in unincorporated Orange County is not at that home, and has no plans to be in the area, deputies said.

I thought they arrested him today?
I thought they arrested him today?
Doh my bad...They did!
If they think they’re gonna do here what They’re doing in Minneapolis I’m afraid they are sadly mistaken.
Sounds like someone wants to burn down his house in Fla wether he’s there or not
Could be!
I am wondering how he can afford two $300,000+ houses on a police salary? Do they make so much money working as a cop in Minneapolis?
He has been on the force for almost 20 yrs so I don’t know what his salary would be. It is possible if he is married his wife works as well.
This really is war folks.
This isn’t about the dead man at all.
Regardless of what we think about the police actions, we
need to stop feeding these idiots brains with justification.
Yeah on the face of it, it looks odd but there are many scenarios for being able to own a 2nd home.
The man being killed had noting to do with it. It was an excuse. The purpose of the burning and the looting [a politically correct term for stealing] was to cause financial hardship to the proprietors and building owners.
Thank Sport. You are right.
Could be inherited, etc...
His wife is a real estate agent.
Floyd was an excuse.
The cowardly police brass released the name of the officers before an official investigation. Gee, wonder why?
A beat cop from Minneapolis has a second home in Florida?
My my, those Minneapolis cops must get paid a lot of walkin’ around money........at taxpayers’ expense.
He worked as an off duty cop at a bar for years and years.
Coincidentally, Floyd worked at that same bar. As a bouncer.
They say they didn’t know each other. They worked that bar for a year.
The cops in Minneapolis can afford to have TWO homes in two different states?? One in FL to escape to from the bad MN winter, I suppose! Strange - very strange!
