The former Minneapolis police officer shown on video putting his knee on the neck of George Floyd has been arrested, according to Minnesota Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington.
Derek Chauvin, who was fired on Tuesday along with three other officers involved in the detainment of Floyd, was taken into custody Friday.
Video showed Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck for at least eight minutes on Monday night. The police department initially said Floyd "physically resisted" the officers and that he died after "suffering medical distress."

“Because we are a nation that believes in the rule of Law and that the officer is entitled to representation by an attorney and a trial by jury. How would you like it if you were accused of something heinous and someone suggested you be turned over to a bloodthirsty mob?”
Listen to Don Lemon’s over the top comments on CNN today where he of course blames Trump for the slowness in charging the police officer. He clearly does not understand the judicial system — it is the Democrat controlled local and state government that conducts the investigation and determines whether or not the evidence is sufficient to try.
Unfortunately, progressives seem to be advocating an end for due process and presumption of innocence in heinous white on minority crimes. Lynchings cannot be far away, egged on by the media and politicians.
The left and liberalish Freepers argue: Floyd was given a death sentence by the police blah blah.See how that works? The death of Floyd is not my argument. Any idiot can see what it is and go kill the ex cops and burn their houses down but that is not law. Time was of the essence and the Democrats in charge totally are responsible for all of this. The mayor did fire them all which was unprecedented and the FBI got involved immediately also unprecedented all before actual due process.
The police like to say “If you don’t resist, we won’t have to kill you.”
If the police don’t go around murdering civilians, and then give themselves every scrap of doubt and due process that the Constitution says ALL citizens should get, there wouldn’t be so many riots.
And you still cannot see the parallel?
Threading the needle.
There was a case in Vadnais Heights (nearer to St. Paul) where a guy was pulled over for a traffic violation; he told the cop he had a concealed carry permit and reached for the glove compartment to get it.
The policeman, being the IQ-of-600 rocket scientist he was, assumed the driver was going for a gun and shot him to death.
I heard the driver’s wife and girlfriend were in the car.
So the policeman was charged with murder 1 and walked.
They’re probably trying to avoid that in this case.
I will make three predictions:
1. It will be years before there is a trial.
2. Trial will not be in Minneapolis.
3. Defense will be that he was told to do it.
Good. Now the real fact-finding starts. He’s entitled to the presumption of innocence, but he looks guilty as can be. That’s why we have trials.
The cop is guilty and deserves to go to trial
But on the other hand, we have buses of paid rent a mobs destroying poor people’s neighborhoods for political gain.
That needs to be stopped somehow.
The victims are the business owners, people who work for them, people who lived their and used their services.
Could have been stopped if the police would have been allowed to do their jobs.
This is really all for show before an election. And it has Obama’s prints all over it
Killing a man by kneeling on his neck for 9 minutes, including 2 1/2 after his bowels and bladder let go, is not due process either.
Especially not for a low-level event like passing a bad $20.
It wasn’t like he was shooting up a gay nightclub with semiautomatic weapons while shouting “Aloha Snackbar” or ripping off his mattress tag or wearing a MAGA hat or anything.
They could’ve let him drive away and arrested him at home a couple of days later.
No grave threat to the public or anything.
Justice needs to be served. Whether or not it would appease the protesters is irrelevant.
What protesters? I see a violent mob, not a single protester is sight.
The problem is that the government only actually performs presumption of innocence, towards (say) murderous cops and top Democrats.
They routinely destroy the rights of everyone else, like one Lt. General Flynn.
Falsifying FBI form 302s, hiding Brady material, lying to the court, illegally threatening to prosecute his son on bogus charges unless he pleads guilty or lies about the President?
And then hide behind the artificial construct of “qualified immunity” which appears nowhere in the Constitution but was invented out of whole cloth to allow government abuses to flourish unchecked.
It’s not just a bleeding heart white guilt thing.
A psychiatrist would proffer that Chauvin is a Sadist. When he digs his full weight into Floyd’s neck, you can see Chauvin place his hands into his pants, close to his crotch. He seems to be pleasuring himself, as he looks down the defenseless victim.
Is this why Chauvin refused to remove the knee from the victims neck? He was trying to attain a sadistic orgasm?
If this ever goes to a jury trial, the prosecutor is going to have a field day with this case.
It should go to trial, and evidence should be presented. I do not see any of what you are speculating about.
It is very likely the officer never put his full weight on George's neck.
Your psychiatric speculation may be projection, hard to know.
Psychiatrists don't make diagnosis based on a eight minute video.
“Why would you say that? You sound stupid. We don’t like stupid here.”
Actually, your comment was stupid, so we don’t like you.
Exactly.
This is precisely what the leftists want.
No due process. No rule of law.
Lynch first, on incomplete evidence, without any defense allowed.
I suspect an entirely different picture will emerge once more details about what happened are revealed.
Exculpatory evidence is already coming out.
#BREAKING: Attorney General William Barr says the DOJ & FBI are investigating if the Minneapolis police officers, involved in the death of George Floyd, violated federal civil rights laws.
Barr says hes confident justice will be served.

Well, hell, if he's guilty, why bother with the trial?
That video looks bad, but isn't he presumed innocent?
Call them whatever you like, but they’re not relevant to what should be done.
Presumed innocent for a non-government actor means
"anything you say can and will be used against you"(*),
we are allowed to lie to you during investigation,
we are allowed to lie under oath (+),
we are allowed to hide exculpatory evidence (X),
and we are allowed to pile on as many bullsh!t specious charges as we want,
since you have to spend your own money defending each and every one,
and we'll bankrupt you soon and then you have to surrender,
and we can pre-emptively cut off your source of income and future income by trashing your reputation and putting you in a cage so you can't go to work,
AND we have the official imprimatur of "GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS"
and show up in fancy uniforms
and using artificially professional sounding language,
while you have to show up in front of a jury wearing prison garb,
and we can threaten to go after your family members too just to frighten, dispirit, and destroy your life, just to make you give in.
Look at what they did to Lt. General Michael Flynn over known lying through their literally treasonous subhuman teeth to a federal judge over "Russian Collusion".
And you can't figure out why people are angry over the double standard?
(*) which in practice means "plausible lies which make you look guilty, are taken out of context, and we pretend you said these quotes which we in fact made up"
(+) literally, as long as they are not caught at it. And even if they are caught at it, if the appeals court decides there would have been enough to convict you without that lie -- which means they get to cherry-pick how they mind-read the jury -- it doesn't matter, and the worst that happens is that evidence gets excluded from the next round of appeals. They don't get punished for perjury, although you always are; even if perjury is not remembering a date correctly.
(X) almost the same rules as perjury, except that if it's bad enough, they have to drop the case. No penalty on them for doing it though.
I have no idea where you got that, GW. I guess you assumed it. Incorrectly.
I absolutely get your point. I'll assume you got mine.
Of course
