Beijing has removed references to peaceful reunification with Taiwan from its annual work report, signalling the country will take a stronger stance against the island territory.
The past six work reports since President Xi Jinping took power in 2013 have signalled that any attempt to reunify Taiwan and China would be peaceful.

It’s a democratic nation, not an “Island territory”
Everything is bought and paid for by China.
I say prepare to severely isolate and weaken China before it’s too late.
Did they ever really mean it?
Exactly.
I am all for the reunification of China under the Republic of China, NOT the People’s Republic of China. I am all for a FREE and DEMOCRATIC China, not the tyrannical dictatorship, as practiced by Beijing. Screw you PRC!
Do we have a defense treaty with Taiwan? If not, we’d better sign one. And arm the Japanese.
And we need to remove the words Favored Nation to a few documents of our own.
“Do we have a defense treaty with Taiwan?”
I certainly hope not. Not our problem.
Time for President Trump to resume full formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
Then sign a defense treaty with them.

Why have we never sold nuclear weapons to Taiwan? Red China has them, Taiwan may as well have enough to keep “the knee of tyranny” off of their necks.
CCP has become more bellicose since Xi arranged to get himself named president for life, further consolidating the identification of the Party and the government. It appears he has calculated that this is a time for decisive aggressive initiatives in several domains, following the Partys holistic approach of a unified mission on all fronts, economic, military, diplomatic, and more.
China’s global ambitions are our problem. They want to supplant us as the world’s leading power and subjugate us and everyone else to their brutal totalitarian rule.
They probably already have the parts. All they need is the screw driver.
Taiwan and Japan, too.
Yawn. I cannot support a president who chooses to get involved in another country’s internal matters. In fact, it goes against his campaign promises, so I hope Trump stays out of it & “encourages” Taiwan to take a stronger stance as well.
They need only to make the choice to mount a single nuclear warhead on one of many missiles aimed at Beijing and suddenly the odds are even.
Taiwan will never be a bulwark against the CCP.
I wonder how many Governments were in the know, as to what China was planning.
Why have we never sold nuclear weapons to Taiwan?
Who would want to make a tiny island a nuclear target for these wacked-out Chinese?
What we need is an understanding with Putin. We’ll wait for the wind to be blowing in a certain direction.
The Taiwan-American defense treaty was abrogated in 1979 when Jimmy Carter and both houses of Congress sold out to Communist China, broke diplomatic relations with Taiwan, and recognized Communist China instead.
It was replaced with the Taiwan Relations Act, which is not a full mutual defense pact. On the other hand it is not insignificant either. In time of peril, such as now, its strength will depend on the interpretation of the president at the time. The presidency of Donald Trump has been favorable to strengthening Taiwan, but its commitment in case of open hostilities is unknown.
