ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Navajo Nation health care facilities may have reached their peak of COVID-19 hospitalizations in late April, several weeks ahead of earlier projections, according to an updated surge plan from the Indian Health Service.
Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez credited cooperation with lockdowns and public health orders as factors in the decline in COVID-19 hospitalizations.
The Navajo public listening to those warnings flattened the curve early, and as you can see the curve is flattening now, Nez said during a town hall update Tuesday. If you were wearing a mask, youre a warrior.
The Navajo Area Indian Health Services May 23 surge plan for the COVID-19 pandemic shows that coronavirus-related hospital admissions, ICU admissions and patients placed on ventilators were all at the highest point from April 21 to April 26, and have steadily decreased since then. Officials had previously projected that Navajo Area IHS health care facilities would not see a peak in virus cases until at least mid-May.
Hospitals in Gallup, Shiprock and Crownpoint continue to cope with increased patient volumes by transporting the most critical COVID-19 patients to Albuquerque.
While coronavirus-related hospitalizations appear to have decreased on the reservation, the number of new cases reported each day has yet to see a steady decline.

If the Navajo Nation were a state, it would have the highest per capita infection rate in America, according to data from state, tribal and federal agencies.
So which is it? Highest infection rate or a flattened curve?
It’s both?! Maybe magic masks and lockdowns don’t matter.
Meanwhile the rest of New Mexico continues in a choking lockdown. Our county with 71,000 population has had two dozen cases with no deaths. Together with the crash of the oil industry, actions by the Dem governor have had a devastating effect on the economy and the population.

As of Tuesday, the Navajo Nation had reported more than 4,800 COVID-19 cases, with 158 deaths and more than 1,580 reported recoveries. So far 15% of tribal members have been tested.
There is more to fear from the hanta virus than the COVID-19 Wuhan virus. The hanta virus has been sort of endemic around the Four-Corners area for several years now. It lives in rodents as alternate hosts and is spread by contact with rodent feces, urine or dried airborne dust from these sources.
Mortality rate for those stricken with hanta virus is some 38%. WAY more than COVID-19 Wuhan virus.
I did.
My endocrinologist said no. A month ago he said if I felt I needed it, he'd cut a script on the spot. Shoulda done it, but we're very tightly hunkered down. Since then I've been selected to be a poll worker, and that changes my calculus of the risk of bringing something home to my 91 year old mom.
No joy.
So I asked my GP.
His assistant called back and said no can do, Gov Sisolak (D) won't allow pharmacists to fill a script for HOCQ unless you are already hospitalized and/or on a ventilator.
I said you can't get it as prophylaxis, when it has been proven effective in preventing the disease from taking hold, you aren't allowed to get it early in the disease process when it has been proven to reduce severity and duration, you're only allowed to get it when the disease has progressed to the point where it's too little too late?
Yep.
Interestingly enough, Gov. Sisolak (D) was caught hoarding HOCQ for himself and for convicted felons in prison.
Honest, hard working, law abiding, tax paying citizens can go slowly drown in their own secretions for all he cares...
I have a summer home and mice infest the garage. Every cleaning requires a mask.
I’ve tried to get the mice to wear masks but they don’t care about me, sniff!
2.7% known infection rate.
If all of America had that infection rate we’d have about 9 million known cases.
But no one knows how many cases there are in America, so we can’t compare.
Traditionalists living in the Rez dont go to doctors or hospitals
Navajos,
Prayers Up.
I hope it peaked. Maybe then I can visit my mom on the weekend without the lockdown in place.
Seems like the Federal Government could step in on the Reservation if invited with teams of doctors prescribing hydroxychloroquine, zinc and azithromycin which they can truck in - Nazi New Mexico Governor can’t stop that.
Lots like you can get an HCQ+Zn prescription that way. Good luck.
Thanks!
I wonder if anyone has tried the HCQ+Zn treatment for this virus because respiratory distress is common to both? Every year there are maybe a dozen or more who become infected with a couple of deaths.
A couple of years ago while working out of town for a couple of months, I had a terrible infestation of the deer mice in my garage - nests in storage boxes, tool boxes, etc. I got an OSHA particulate respirator, got myself fit tested after medical clearance, dressed in Tyvek coveralls, nitrile gloves, booties, taped hands and feet to the Tyvek and went after it with a wet-vac with HEPA filter. Sprayed down areas before working with a 10% bleach solution. It took a full day to clear it out, but I wanted to be safe. All except the wet-vac came from our safety company so little cost, just needed proper preparation.
Hope so, trying right now.
I spent a Summer
