WILLIAMSPORT The chairman of the Lycoming County board of commissioners wants to know what is needed to get the county into the green phase of Gov. Wolfs COVID-19 reopening plan.
What arent we passing? Commissioner Scott L. Metzger asked after Wolf at his Wednesday news conference with Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine said the county was not ready to leave the yellow.
The Wolf Administrations job is to ensure our residents safety, a spokesperson for Levine said later. We were not confident that Lycoming was ready to go from yellow to green.
The commissioners by letter Tuesday asked Wolf to move the county into the green as he did Centre County, which was not one of the 17 counties originally slated to move from yellow on Friday.
The Health Department lists 161 coronavirus cases in the county of 113,000 and 15 deaths. However, Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. said there have been 20 deaths, all senior center residents.
Nineteen of those have been from the ManorCare Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jersey Shore, he said.
This is an isolated spot in the county, Metzger said. There have been only 26 confirmed cases in Williamsport, the county seat, and only 29 new cases in the county in the past 15 days, he said.
If you feel we havent passed something, tell us so we can start working on it, he said addressing Wolf and Levine. Our people deserve to know.
In their letter asking to be moved into the green, the commissioners noted UPMC Susquehanna in Williamsport does not have anyone at this time with the coronavirus.
UPMC has the ability to do contact tracing and address any increased COVID-19 activity should it occur, they said.
A continued partial lockdown will not assist our county in any further reduction of positive cases and we believe will do more damage, the letter states.
Our citizens are hurting incredibly, Metzger said. Many businesses are claiming that unless they are given the opportunity reopen immediately they be unable to do so in the future due to the severe financial impacts of the lockdown, he said.
The county has been in the yellow phase since May 8.
What do the colors mean?
Pennsylvania Ping!
Please ping me with articles of interest.
FReepmail me to be added to the list.
When they asked “what must we do to pass”, did Wolf drop trou and bend over?
All it took was to get the ball rolling...
In Virginia Gov CoonMan was going to open it ALL up last Fri.
Northern VA said - as a group - We aren’t ready.
So - to his credit (which isn’t easy for me to give credit) he said, FINE, the rest of the state will open and we will get back to you.
So, he called their bluff had a partial opening and on the NEXT DAY, two of the counties were virtually SUING to allow to open. (Once you can break their ranks ...etc...
Once you have them by the ‘short hairs’, the rest of the body will tail along.
So this week he institutes a ‘bigger opening’ but masks are required.
Then the ChickenSchiff admitted ‘they’ can’t enforce the edict so he turned it over to the Health Department and the Quislings to turn in offenders with the Health Dept having the ‘upper hand’ as to places that need THEIR approval to remain open.
As an aside and ‘buckling to another group’ a follow up rule says one doesn’t have to wear a mask if they are experiencing or will experience ‘health problems’.
The ‘beauty’ of it being that you don’t even need a Drs note, just state you can’t/won’t wear a mask...then it is up to the owner/establishment to NOT ALLOW one without a mask to enter but with the ‘loophole’ I would be leery of law suits..
CRAZY.....THE MADNESS...
Red, yellow, green.
Green is “only” 50 to 75% of being allowed to run normal business.
What color is assigned to no longer being under partial slavery?
They paid someone to write that headline!
TBD....betcha it won't be WHITE.
Or Orange!
In CT Phase I was May 20, which was supposed to include barbers and salons. They had almost 3 weeks notice on the requirements to prepare but less than 2 days prior a bunch who got lazy whined that they weren’t ready or didn’t feel safe. My idiot Governor said, fine, no barber can re open even if you meet all the requirements until sometime in June.
Some people have said that they won’t “feel safe” (why do the lefties always come back to ishy-squishy “feelings”?) until there is a proven vaccine.
So they can go hibernate themselves.
Just don’t ask me to subsidize their miserable existence.
No color, because your manumission isnt part of the plan.
This chokehold is the new normal. We still have H1N1 circulating.
Eradication in their stated All Clear signal.
Except even common flu can kill and most assuredly we will see calls for social distancing, gloves, isolation, and masks come November.
Wonder when the Allergy Shamers are going to step forward and tsk tsk anyone with a runny nose from pollen. “Better take 2 weeks sick leave from work! We don’t trust you!”
Karen,don't yell at me!
You used the right term, existence. Hiding in your house for months, wearing a mask to get the mail, whining about someone taking a walk without a mask is not living.
Centre County is more dense than Lycoming with Penn State being there. Wolf moved it to green because it is a liberal stronghold whereas Lycoming is a conservative stronghold.
This is pure politics.
Exhibit B: Lancaster County.
Still "red" and won't go yellow until June 5.
Lancaster (and York) tipped the scales in 2016 to turn the state to Trump and with those EV's assured that he would be in the White House.
Holding Lancaster to the end about REVENGE, not "health".
