In the end, it is the face mask that is the clearest symbol of America’s divide
American Thinker ^ | May 27, 2020 | Patricia McCarthy

Posted on 05/27/2020 5:39:38 AM PDT by george76

The mask is essentially useless: The mask is not an adequate defense against the COVID-19 virus... The virus checks in at somewhere between 0.06 and 0.14 microns, meaning it’s too small for any commercially available mask to effectively filter it out. The pores on an N95 mask, which are the best masks you’re reasonably going to find, and the vast, vast majority of you are not going to have N95 masks but rather cloth masks, which perform far less well, are 0.3 microns

...

Staten Island a mob of “karens” forced a woman from a store for not wearing a mask and they were not at all polite about it; they were vicious. This is all the end result of the wholly unnecessary lockdown of the American economy which was based on fallacious “science” from the outset. It is the distillation of the cultural divide. We are a nation split between the fearful, those easily frightened by anything they read in the mainstream media, and the not-by-nature fearful who are justifiably suspicious of the nonsense spewed forth by the mainstream media

. ..

a carefully-constructed hoax, a treasonous attempt to overthrow a duly elected President in order to cover up their many crimes .

...

Heroes of the left, Drs. Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx have been wrong, wrong, wrong. Long ago the great Thomas Sowell wrote that “It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.”

The lockdown was never needed. The hospitals were never overrun, the mortality rate has been a fraction of what the “scientists” predicted. The “data” has all been corrupted.

...

two types of people .. “karens” and “sharons.”

She cites it, but I do not care for that “writer from Sharonzona’s” use of the word “Karen” for Conservatives who opt not to play the game and, for example, boycott Costco for their ridiculous policies.

https://www.azcentral.com/story/opinion/op-ed/2020/05/24/whats-your-covid-19-personality/5236389002/

I saw the word “Karen” for the first time here on FR over the weekend; it’s dumb. Next there’ll be a label for the person who breaks the nose of “karen” who berates for not wearing a mask.

These labels accomplish nothing.

Furthermore, the writer’s statement below is absolute hogwash:

“The silver lining of this strategy to use this virus as an instrument of control, (a strategy that is even more destructive than the Russia hoax), is that millions of former Democrats are waking up to the oppressive tendencies of Democrats and cannot wait to vote out these despots.”

Democrats in my state and elsewhere revel in the effects of the lockdowns, namely Trump’s declining polling numbers and grim economic news. From where I sit, they wear their masks in part out of fear, in part as a form of solidarity. I would hazard $1000 on the table to the assertion that 9-in-10 mask wearers in at least my area are democrats.

In that respect the writer is spot-on, but the citation of the labels and the quote above severely-detracted from her point. IMHO.

That sounds good till you think about it. The business man is still subject to govt, being sued, and social posturing by others.

‘Wear a mask to show that you care for others’ unlike that selfish Trump, is what they are saying on MSNBC.

In this thread:

Masses of Freepers who are just figuring out what a “Karen” is, now that “Karen” has been a thing for a couple of years.

You guys are soooo old.

Face masks do not protect the wearer. The N94 mask will protect the wearer. All the other masks you see only help in the effort to stop (reduce) any aerosol droplets from flying out of your mouth and nose when you talk, sneeze, blow, yell, cough, or any other activity requiring breath or pulmonary air exchange. IOW, it’s for the other people around you. That is of course unless you are flagrantly campaigning to share precious bodily fluids through pulmonary progagation.

Where is all the reporting on cytokines?

Cytokines are oddly missing from the discussion and I find that rather disturbing.

Interestingly the protest against masking is oddly reminiscent of the seatbelt protests of 40+ years ago (which Nader pointed out recently during an interview).

Yep,

But remember, they write the history books so they are never 'wrong'

It’s a symbol of submission to the government. If you have a mask, you are politically correct. If you don’t, you are the enemy and are to be scorned.
You already know what I think of an oppressive government.

Why are sneezing coughing people even out in public?
These essentially useless face coverings give them permission.

“The lockdown was never needed. ... The “data” has all been corrupted.”

Fauci should be tried for sedition — among the other issues of corruption throughout his career.

Labels accomplish absolutely nothing?

Where did you come up with that nonsense?

And why do you label some people ‘Democrats’?

What did that accomplish?

One of my customers is a virologist. We had a long discussion yesterday.

She explained/clarified that we all breathe viruses everyday. A normal immune system can handle it. She compared viruses to the candy machine in the famous I Love Lucy episode. Everything is fine until the machine is sped up and the body can’t handle the incoming.

Masks don’t (and can’t) stop all viruses. They are meant to reduce the outgoing from the asymptomatic infected.

She then gave me this visual. If you and an infected person were locked in a 10 by 10 room, would you get sick? If you were in there for a minute, probably not. If you were in there for an hour, more likely you would. If you were in there for an hour and stood facing each other one foot apart for an hour, it is even more likely. If you spent the hour in opposite corners of the room, both wearing masks, your chance of getting infected would be low.

You get sick when the amount of the virus that has entered your body overwhelms your immune system. This amount varies greatly from person to person.

Immunity develops when you are exposed to small amounts of the virus over time. Isolating the healthy means that more people will get sick when they are eventually exposed to one another.

It was her opinion that the people behind the policies of stay at home are trying to stretch this pandemic out for as long as possible.

When I see our state numbers finally dropping instead of rising. As it stands, Arizona is (correctly or incorrectly) looking at another 1000 deaths, give or take.

The last I checked, Arizona didn't even have a thousand deaths as of today; that's from a population of nearly eight million.

“I saw the word ‘Karen’ for the first time here on FR over the weekend; it’s dumb.”

It’s been around for years (started with an actual person named “Caren with a C”, I believe). It has to do with a personality type in general, and nothing specifically to do with masks.

The term Karen has been around on Reddit for years.

Just because all you read is FR and Readers Digest is not my fault. The head scratching around here is hilarious.
