The now-viral video of a white woman who called the cops on a black man in Central Park is disturbing but weve got bigger fish to fry than pursuing charges against her, NYPD First Deputy Commissioner Benjamin Tucker said Tuesday morning. The video shows the woman, identified in reports as Amy Cooper, on the phone telling police: There is an African American man. I am in Central Park. He is recording me and threatening myself and my dog. The man had asked the woman to leash her dog. In an interview with PIX11, Tucker called it an unfortunate incident, and frankly, its hard to understand what she did. The fact she invoked race is disturbing, Tucker said. But also, listen, shes got a dog. The signs say dogs must be leashed. She wasnt in compliance, so in effect, she was the problem, not the gentleman who asked her to put the dog on the leash. It was a simple thing. But the NYPD isnt looking to bring charges against Cooper, he said. Were not going to pursue that, Tucker said. Weve got bigger fish to fry, I think, and the DA would never prosecute that. Its not even clear that it would be actionable in terms of any violation. The man who could be heard in the video, Christian Cooper, said he asked Amy to put the dog on a leash, and when she didnt, he offered the pooch a treat. The only way they can keep the dog from eating the treat is to put it on a leash, he told NBC Monday. At some point, she decided, Im gonna play the race card, I guess. No, all she had to do was leave and refuse to interact. Instead, she chose to play a stupid game in front of a very obvious camera. She ruined her own life.
If not a beat down, he might get shot. It is NYPD, after all.
Or if in Minnenapolis, a cop’s knee to his neck until dead.
Thanks to all who answered my question. I would have hollered at her as well.
Also a possibility, yes. And Karen would be smiling in the background, having gotten her way and never once thinking about the life *she* ruined other than as a boost to her ego.
How about bitch-slappin’ anyone that uses the name Karen in a pejorative manner?
We need more intellectual entropy — now!
Go away, Bill - and take your wife Karen with you :P
Haha... I’m broke, and the Karen I once knew married someone else.
Your man was trolling central park and throwing out doggie treats to rile up dog owners. He is an idiot looking for twitter fame, and he got it. He ruined this woman’s life by uploading video. Ask yourself why he and his sister uploaded the video?
Who made this black man the dog enforcer of Central Park?
Back in ‘your day’, when DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH (/plummy announcer voice) there was an very popular TV show called Candid Camera. In part, it did much the same thing. It also resulted in millions of people laughing at the setup’s unwilling victim and no few times amounted to career suicide for said victim when they behaved badly. How is this any different for an end result?
She was breaking several park regs and the law, he called her on it as it was interfering with an activity he was legally participating in, and she went full Karen. She could have leashed her dog or walked away. She didn’t and she is paying for her foolish mistake.
As for why upload it? Because the stupid woman actually called the cops on him and they have a nasty habit of deleting exculpatory evidence on your phone. The best way to make sure the cops can’t make your video disappear is to make sure it gets publicly uploaded.
Karen’s wear short skirts and long jackets and drive Chrysler Lebarons.
I love dogs. Their owners? Not so much.
No, because all the LeBarons died. :P That was a good identification guide in the 80s and early 90s though.
Today Karen most often pilots a minivan, crossover or giant SUV and wears those stupid “Live, laugh, love” shirts.
Oddly, in a since deleted social media post non-apology “apology”, Karen agreed with the man’s version of events prior to the recording started. She then *disagreed with the events shown on the video.*
Wrong on your number 3. He is a goofball retired guy, with too much time on his hands. So he hassles dog owners in Central park. He uploaded the video because he is a black racist who wanted to ruin a white woman’s life. He succeeded as the black racist twitter bobs descended on the video, giving it 6 millions hits. These mobs howled to their vampire moon for vengeance on her and whitey in general.
The Black racist birder now has some large temporary fame with the black twitter mobs that swarm across twitter looking for targets. These pukes never get deleted, only white conservatives do.
TRUTH! And tough if you cannot handle it.
So, you’re saying that it’s all his fault and that the Karen bears no responsibility for:
1. Breaking the law.
2. Acting like a racist ass on camera.
3. Abusing her dog on camera.
4. Attempting to SWAT someone.
Yeah, get your meds checked.
That’s from a song and those are the lyrics.
The musical group... “Cake”
“She wants a car with a cup holder armrest
She wants a car that will get her there
She’s changing her name
From Kitty to Karen
She’s trading her MG for a white Chrysler LeBaron
I want a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket”
LOL. :-)
Bottom line:
Whose life was ruined due to a black racist pile on via twitter? But then what do you care?
Meanwhile your birdie boy skates and gets no blame for anything. Even though he started it all.
SWAT someone in Central Park with people all around? Hhahhaaa. You also must not know that the NYPD is highly minority these days. Minority meaning Chinese, black, Hispanic, Arab and so on.
Hey Reverend Al Spktyr —Black racist birdie boy was not going to get swatted in a million years.
