Five Quick Things: Let That Mask Slip
The American Spectator ^ | 25 May 20 | Scott McKay

Posted on 05/25/2020 5:58:19 AM PDT by SkyPilot

That mask isn't virtuous, nor is it going to keep you from catching the virus. Plus, various other things.

It’s time to say a few things which need to be said — and to irritate some people who need to be irritated (as they are surely irritating).

And on with the show…

1. Enough with the Mask-Nazi nonsense.

Those of us who refuse to live our lives in fear, or to bow to those who do, have a message for the rest of you — the time has come and gone for us to continue with this idiotic charade of wearing masks in public.

The mask is not an adequate defense against the COVID-19 virus, gang. The virus checks in at somewhere between 0.06 and 0.14 microns, meaning it’s too small for any commercially available mask to effectively filter it out. The pores on an N95 mask, which are the best masks you’re reasonably going to find, and the vast, vast majority of you are not going to have N95 masks but rather cloth masks which perform far less well, are 0.3 microns.

Meaning that while the N95 mask you wish you had but don’t, and that you shouldn’t have because doctors and nurses who have to treat coronavirus patients daily in hospitals need a steady supply of them, might trap the virus most of the time, that crappy cloth mask you’re wearing is more or less worthless. All it’s doing is signaling to people that you think you care more about the virus than they do.

But if you really want to wear that mask, OK. Go ahead and wear it. It’s time to stop giving the stink-eye, or worse, a piece of your Karen mind, to people who aren’t impressed with your Mask Virtue...

If your post has nothing to do with mine, don't make it a reply to mine. Thanks.

When I mean correctly, I am referring to not covering the nose and even mouth. I’ve seen quite a number with it only covering their chin. I haven’t figure out if they don’t know, don’t care or are participating in a passive aggressive protest. It doesn’t matter much to me.

I have rebuffed your posts. Your reading comprehension ranks up there with your scientific acumen. Better change your screen name you are neither noble nor free. But you have earned a place ion my fearper ignore list

Your reading comprehension

Projection. What you've rebutted (not "rebuffed") is the straw man voices in your head.

Oh, and a virion is NOT a "virus particle."

Here you go:

"A virion is an entire virus particle consisting of an outer protein shell called a capsid and an inner core of nucleic acid (either ribonucleic or deoxyribonucleic acid—RNA or DNA). The core confers infectivity, and the capsid provides specificity to the virus."

You're making a lot of friends on this thread.

Maybe you should just go put your slave mask on, and compulsively wash your hands in your bathroom.

The “absolute worse” would be something like if a rogue star collided with the earth this afternoon.

Fair.

Imagine being so uninformed and foolish thinking wearing a mask makes you safe.

True. If people thought self protection was the main benefit rather than keeping others safer they would be misinformed.

LOL! If they don't trap viruses they can't be a reservior for them.

<crickets/>

"A virion is an entire virus particle

My bad - I was thinking of viroids.

You're making a lot of friends on this thread.

Like I do or should care.

I walked into a store in Redding and asked the counter lady if she wanted me to pull my bandanna up over my nose, she just laughed and said it would make me look like the frito bandito.

Yes I always wear a bandanna, always have, there’s a lot of dust operating heavy equipment.

Sounds like putting up a chain-link fence to keep out mosquitoes would work about as well.

When I see a person with a mask on, I see a dog wearing a muzzle to prevent him/her from biting people.

"My reservation about virus size is that the virus is said to travel in droplets. So maybe droplet containing virus gets trapped in mask. But what happens to virus after droplet dries up in mask?"

It stays in the mask. Then you wash the mask in hot water with soap or detergent, which destroys the viral particles.

More problematic are the droplets that float off into the air, THEY evaporate water rapidly and become smaller, but NEVER to the bare viral particle, because those droplets still contain some level or salt and many other biomolecules which do NOT evaporate.

My post with links on this thread covers the "science of droplets" in depth.

False. At least four studies show that masks reduce the transmission of the coronavirus disease SARS:

Cute, but it might help if you actually were familiar with the links that you have provided. First the “review” of “studies” from over 10 years ago that you linked to was actually related to Personal Protective Equipment provided to firefighters and healthcare professionals used... the fitted quality masks and respirators that I mentioned using during my many years as a Fire Officer and senior Hazmat Officer. Dust masks, bandannas, scarves, homemade nonsense made out of old T-shirts have nothing in common with the equipment that we used that these “studies”.

Thanks for providing more nonsense that makes you look like a complete fool once again.

My reservation about virus size is that the virus is said to travel in droplets. So maybe droplet containing virus gets trapped in mask. But what happens to virus after droplet dries up in mask?

Some of the viral particles are kept within the mask where and is concentrated in your nasal cavities where it greatly increases your chances of having coronavirus make it to your brain via your olfactory nerve channel. The rest of it is preserved in virulent form until it works its way through the mask and the microscopic particles which are far to small for the mask to stop are spread with every breath you exhale and unlike those that are contained in tiny droplets they float around in the air in enclosed spaces for an extended period of time.

Dust masks and hmemade masks, bandanas, scarves, etc... are practically worthless other than reminding the public that they need to comply with every worthless edict handed down by their political leadership. And they also give the people the false sense that the government is doing something to protect them.
