Iranian Tankers To Reach Venezuela In Next 24 Hours Amid “Threat Of Imminent Military Force By US” (Sat Eve/Sun Morn)

By as early as the evening on Saturday or Sunday morning it's expected that the first among the five Iranian tankers transporting fuel to gasoline-starved Venezuela will enter the Latin American country's coastal waters.

Maduro officials have issued an emergency notice to the United Nations of an illegal "threat of imminent use of military force by the United States."

And with Washington threatening to block what it deems "sanctions-busting" by two "rogue states" - both under severe sanctions - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has issued his own last minute warning.

Today we alerted the UN Security Council and Secretary General Antonio Guterres of the threat of imminent use of military force by the United States against Iranian vessels carrying Venezuelan-directed gasoline. An act of war under international law.

See here: pic.twitter.com/jyp8kqQZsQ — Samuel Moncada (@SMoncada_eng) May 22, 2020 “If our tankers in the Caribbean or anywhere in the world face trouble caused by the Americans, they [the United States] will also be in trouble,” Rouhani told the Emir of Qatar in a phone call, Tasnim News reported.

The Maduro government said days ago that it would send a military escort in the form of planes and ships once the tankers enter Venezuela's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), or within 200 miles of the coast.

Rouhani expressed hope there wouldn't be a showdown or conflict, however, amid prior reports of a Trump-ordered US 'naval build-up' in the Caribbean, in part to crackdown on what the administration has referred to Maduro's narcotrafficking operations in the region. The Iranian oil tanker Clavel headed through the Strait of Gibraltar earlier this month, via AP. “We hope the Americans will not make a mistake,” Rouhani stressed further to Qatar’s head of state, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Iran previously warned that any US attempt

I was thinking more along the lines of the Monroe Doctrine only an updated version. No trade allowed in the Americas by sanctioned Nations that sponsor international terrorism. Subject to blockade and interdiction.

Look for weapons.

RELEASE THE CRUISE SHIP!

https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1265608/naiguata-resolute-venezuela-navy-vessel-sinks-cruise-news-latest-resolute-ship-naiguata

"Venezuela patrol vessel sinks after ramming cruise ship in 'act of naval idiocy'

A VENEZUELAN navy coastal patrol came off worse when it sank after deliberately ramming into a cruise liner it had ordered to change direction.

The Portuguese-flagged RCGS Resolute said the naval vessel Naiguata also fired shots in an "act of aggression in international waters”. The collision in the Caribbean left the cruise ship, which has a reinforced hull for sailing in icy waters, with barely a scratch but the military vessel was badly damaged and foundered and sank after the incident."

See the hilarious video in the story.

All of your comments on this thread are sickening. Yes the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars were a waste. Tragically. How you equate Iran and Venezuela with that situation and actually side with Iran and Venezuela, a dictatorship and a dictatorship, makes you a Democrat and someone who should not be on this board.

You need to work the evaluate if you are really welcome here anymore and if this site even fits your views

Presumably the transport (sale) of oil from Iran violates the sanctions in place.

That would create an environmental issue.

Stop them on the way out. Confiscate the oil and deliver it to a neutral party.

The seals would make short work of these guys.

A few Mk-48 torpedos fired from a Virginia class sub would make quick work of these ships.

Only way to do this without putting oil in the water is to take out their stearing gear. A 25mm cannon would do the trick. Mounted on every US Navy vessel currently on the water.

The other option would be boarding with Marines, SEALs or Coast Guard LEDets.

*** people like you belong on the other site for democrats ***

You do realize that the Democrat candidate for President, Joe Biden, supports the Guaido Presidency, and the sanctions on Venezuela, right?

https://www.cfr.org/article/joe-biden

“I was among the first Democratic foreign policy voices to recognize Juan Guaidó as Venezuela’s legitimate leader and to call for Maduro to resign....

The U.S. should push for stronger multilateral sanctions so that supporters of the regime cannot live, study, shop, or hide their assets in the United States, Europe, or Latin America.”

No need to take out the ships. Disappear the docks instead.

Excellent post and spot on.

God knows that we have enough problems without the neocons starting unnecessary trouble. We simply don’t have the right.

It would be wonderful if we just minded our own business. As if most of the world didn’t already hate us, unnecessary aggression against other nations, sure wouldn’t help.

I hate the Iranian, Afghan and Venezuelan regimes as much as anyone, but it’s up to the citizens of those respective countries to take action.

Underlying question for socialists...Why are the tankers needed to supply oil-rich Venezuela?
