President Donald Trump spoke briefly at the White House Friday and called for state governors to allow for churches and other places of worship to reopen to the public.

Trump says he considers houses of worship “essential” and wants them to reopen this weekend.

When churches open up, there will probably be some people who are eager to return to worship together and others who prefer to wait for a while. Many churches have been streaming their services which will just allow more people to participate in the end. In many states, or areas of states, churches are already open.

I don’t know if he has the Constitutional authority but he can certainly get on the bully pulpit shame them & encourage freedom of religion\civil rights lawsuits.

There must be a way to lean on the governors financially.

But maybe the blue states can be put on probation for denying the free exercise of religion the way the South was put on probation over racial segregation.

I oust the edges with masks.

If a private business is posted “masks required” I don one on entry. I oppose them being used as deputies to enforce this garbage. But they are the ones that need to sue. I do respect the right if a private business to require it and I sympathize with their desire not to be shut down by our insane state.

I pull it off after I pay. I am leaving anyway.

I don’t wear one outdoors. And I don’t wear one if a business isn’t posted or if the employees inside are unmasked.

So today I walked unmasked to the dry cleaner and conducted business unmasked with them. Then to the drug store, mask on upon entry. Mask off walking again. Mask on when entering grocery and off at checkout. Mask off walking home.

I am about 1 percent of the people around me who are almost all masked but I live in heavily liberal San Francisco in a deeply Asian area.

As for leaning on governors financially California is losing billions if not a
Trillion and no the democratic machine does not seem to care. I am in awe of this as of course they want money more than anything. It makes no sense even from an evil point of view. My only explanation is insanity.

Oh I am sorry re some churches. I fear our church will not reopen they are being so odd. I am in despair over it. Have to find another church, just heartbroken.

My understanding is that in just about every state churches are open and allowed to meet but the number of people who can attend is restricted. That's state orders. I don't think Trump has the authority to overrule that.

Thank you for the comprehensive report, Persevero. Much more relaxed up here in Placer County/Auburn ... though still about half the people in stores are anti-social mask-wearers/identity-hiders and a few stores require face-coverings be worn (I shop elsewhere). Outdoors mask-wearers account for only about 10-15% based on what I observed driving around town this morning.

If the church (all denominations) folds this quickly now, what’s going to happen when preaching that homosexuality is sinful? Or when tax exempt status is denied? The quickness with which the church gave up is frightening.
Maybe it’s best we find out now?!
