Ha! I have the impression that it’s their arrogance. They look in the mirror and say to themselves-”Gee, I’m SO beautiful that I don’t need any help.”
So they don’t comb their hair, wear perfume or make-up, etc.
I work with female professors and they’re all like that. Several will ONLY wear dirty, wrinkled clothes and don’t do personal hygiene!
I think there’s is one exception.

I’d tell them, right off the bat, “You should shower. Your body odor is offensive.”
I worked with people like that, and I have told them about it. Some took it well, others, not so much.
But they all showered afterwards.
