In the order issued last week, U.S. District Judge David O. Carter called for the relocation of up to 7,000 people living near overpasses, off-ramps and on-ramps, saying they face severe health risks from tailpipe emissions and car crashes.
If carried out, it would mark a major shift in policy in a city and county that have seen a record number of people living in tents and makeshift shelters in recent years. Following a series of court rulings and legal settlements, efforts to clear encampments from sidewalks and other public spaces have been heavily restricted.

Relocate them all to Sacramento.
Do these statists worry about confrontations when they shut millions of small business?
They should! (see my tagline).
LOL. Nope, no other "severe health risks" from living on the street year in and year out.
If it takes a red herring like this to clean the place up, then let's go with it.
Do members of the California legislature have live in offices or apartments near the capitol? If so house the homeless there.
Move them into the homes of Mayor Garcetti and the City Council, and how about Maxine Waters, Ted Liu and Adam Schiff’s homes, I hear these folks live in vast mansions.
Agreed. I think the next wave of the conservative movement will be to address local issues like this and the failure of local governments to deal with vagrants who need to get a job.
“they face severe health risks from tailpipe emissions and car crashes.”
Apparently they’ve whipped substance abuse and STD problem...Good for them.
Anyone else notice when the liberals with their lawsuits before friendly judges managed to close the mental hospitals in the 1960s and 70s, “homelessness” increased dramatically in the US. The streets were no longer safe for self respecting hobos.
“Some fear everything”

There are probably 100’s of mansions owned by elite movie stars with a lot of land and vacant rooms.
Just move these 7,000+ into those mansions/properties!
Interesting to see a court case on the subject of homelessness. If I recall correctly there was a court case on homelessness, in which the Court ruled that you cannot sweep homeless people off the streets unless you have shelter space to accommodate them somewhere.
And I think that is one reason why some cities have mobs of homeless because there is not shelter space to relocate them to , to get them off the streets.
I wonder if there will be a follow-up court case to direct LA or other cities to build homeless shelters.
I’m sure virtually everyone on this site and most of the general public would agree, that is not good to see homeless people camping out and sleeping in public places. But there doesn’t seem to be a consensus or political will needed to deal with the problem.
“you have shelter space to accommodate them somewhere.’
Empty luxury hotels like sanfransicko is doing.

You’re right, and let’s not forget the other Los Angeles area celebrities from pop music, TV and sports. How big is LeBron James’ mansion? This way he could help “the Community”.

Maybe they will evolve to survive these conditions. After all, that’s how giraffes got long necks.
Right - put them out on the sidewalks where they belong.
Sacramento....
Publicity stunt-—have a dozen scruffy derelicts stand on Newsom’s lawn and demand to sleep on his carpeted floors at home and use his toilets. “This is America. Don’t forget about us.”
Then news story ————Police have taken the protestors to appropriate social service officers who will direct them to apply for assistance programs available.
Maybe have the government build little condos all along the freeway overpass grass as far as the eye can see.
Signs will say “Drivers Be Alert For Pedestrians Panhandling on Freeway.” Silhouette of hobo’s profile.
If driver is then charged with hitting a derelict who suddenly darts in front of his 60 mph vehicle, government and courts will say “We told you to be careful. You should have obeyed the clearly written signs.”
