Newsom says federal government has 'ethical obligation' to send states funding amid coronavirus

California Governor Gavin Newsom weighed in on the question of bailing out states whose budgets have been blown up by the coronavirus pandemic.

Newsom told CNN’s “State of the Union” that a state bailout was not “charity” and that Congress has a “moral and ethical obligation” to help Americans across the country.

The House passed a $3 trillion coronavirus relief bill last week which contained almost a trillion dollars to bail out states. It also contained goodies for all — another stimulus check, help for renters, college debt relief, and cash for illegal immigrants.

Fox News: “Not to act now is not only irresponsible in a humanitarian way, it is irresponsible because it’s only going to cost more,” warned House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. “More in terms of lives, livelihood, cost to the budget, cost to our democracy.”

Republicans mocked the bill as a bloated Democratic wish-list that was dead on arrival in the GOP-led Senate and, for good measure, faced a White House veto threat. Party leaders say they want to assess how $3 trillion approved earlier is working and see if some states’ partial business reopenings would spark an economic revival that would ease the need for mor

This idiotic Nuisance Newsom governor boasted that California can go it alone, without any help from the feds. Said California could put its own satellites in space and do more than most countries, so told the feds to leave California alone. Then he blows a surplus on a high-speed train to nowhere and a new park that benefit a small percentage of Californians, and throws money to illegals while ignoring the citizens who pay the state taxes to fund it all.

Now he begs for money from the feds because of ethics? Gov Newsom, you need to get some ethics and learn about the obligations to your state's citizens that you ignore!

California wants to give relief money to illegal aliens. Here’s how they want it to work:

American taxpayer (farmer, dentist, etc.) —> Federal government —> CA —> illegal aliens

Short form:
American taxpayer —> illegal aliens

Just no.

The federal government has an obligation to tell Comrade Newsom to “*** himself, his AG and the red-dominated California legislature”.

No no.. he’s right.

In fact, we should take California’s contributions and spread them out to the poor red states as part of a socially conscious distribution.

The federal government has no legal obligation to bail them out, and that's where the rubber meets the road.

Nah. Siri Newsom, your state is been mismanaged for decades, they made it worse by causing massive economic disruption and have no desire to ease up on those restrictions so you can figure out a way to fix the mess you created yourself.

He sent a billion dollars to China for overpriced and underperforming masks. He bought up twice as many hotel rooms for the homeless than he needed. He is giving illegals tens of millions in “free money”.

The feds are under no ethical or moral obligation to fund his folly.

Dear Governor;

Speaking of ethical obligations, does a state that fails to make proper public employee pension contributions deserve to be bailed out by the federal government? Does a state that drives business out of its borders with tax and oppressive regulations ethically deserve to be bailed out of its fallen revenues by the taxpayers of states that have managed their finances?

You have no right to bring up ethics.

Well, then you better move your sweet ass and get California back to work PDQ and ASAP...

Yep, just like NewsomIdiot has an “ethical obligation” to balance his own budget and make the necessary cuts where needed but going to the extent of issuing a quid pro quo (if you don’t give me a bailout, I will layoff first responders)is beyond unethical. Far as I am concerned F-off NewsomIdiot. Pull your big boy pants up and reap what you and decades worth of liberal progressive politicians have sown.

How fitting that a leftist state that coddles “homeless” addicts to such a degree that they are overrun with them is now acting like the biggest panhandling bum on the planet. California is addicted to liberalism, and now its drug of choice has reduced it to begging for the money to buy its next fix. This should be the point at which this state recognizes that it has hit rock bottom, and agrees to the “tough love” of a financial and political intervention. But we all know that will never happen.

Just like with the recalcitrant street bum, to give them what they want will only hurt them further.
