Annie Glenn, the widow of astronaut and U.S. Sen. John Glenn and a communication disorders advocate, died Tuesday of complications from COVID-19. She was 100.

Glenn died at a nursing home near St. Paul, Minnesota, said Hank Wilson, a spokesman for the Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University.

At the time of John Glenn’s death in 2016, the two had been married 73 years. She had moved out of the apartment they shared in Columbus in recent years and gone to live with her daughter, Lyn, according to Wilson.

Annie Glenn was thrust into the spotlight in 1962, when her husband became the first American to orbit Earth. She shied away from the media attention because of a severe stutter.

I agree. Anyone sitting on top of one of those rockets had to have balls the size of basketballs.

Just like in any VFW hall in the country, you can respect the ribbons on a person’s chest...and still think the guy turned into a jerk later.

John Glenn was an all-american hero for awhile. Then he became a democrat politician.

John Glenn should have left politics alone. He became one of the Keating Five. That should have sealed the political fates of the culprits. However, the media allowed them to continue, and they were bad politicians.

“Then he became a democrat politician.”

And an abominable one. He was the front runner to take on Reagan in 1984, only he had no charisma.

Glenn didn’t win his first outings bc while he had the astronaut aura about him, he was a lousy candidate, wooden and dull as dirt as a speaker. He also ran against the Dem incumbent, Young, then the even more odious leftist, Howard Metzenbaum who challenged him for never having “held a job”. Glenn won by responding, tell that to a Gold Star mother whose son no longer holds a “job”.

I found out Keating owns (or used to own) The Phoenician Resort near Camelback.
Very prime real estate!

McCain managed to get Sedona to limit home owners to minimum of 1 month rental so his hotel holdings in Sedona weren’t hurt.

McCain family has been dirty in AZ real estate since the 80’s.

I've read the book "The Right Stuff" at least three times since it came out in the late 1970s. It remains the best book on the astronaut program I've ever read.

Glenn did not get as good a portrayal in the book as he did in the movie. In the book, his overly earnest "brown-nosing" goodie-two-shoes manner clearly irritated many of the other astronauts. His peers so clearly disrespected him that they basically voted him off the first flight (which went to Alan Shepard).

That did turn out to be fortuitous, for Glenn ended up being the first American in orbit on a later flight, which resulted in all the ticker tape parades and the full "JFK-Jackie" red carpet treatment.

The scene in the movie with Lyndon Johnson fuming outside the home of Annie Glenn during the flight, because she didn't want him in her house, was pretty funny.

As my political views became more concentrated the older I got, it was difficult for me to have to judge John Glenn on that rather than his aviation related contributions to our country.

A real disappointment. I know I am not alone in that sentiment.

John Glenn, along with another Dem, blocked Senate investigations into Bill Clinton/DNC China money in exchange for a ride in the SST.

Her husband will live in infamy for helping derail the investigation onto Clintoon’s ChiCom treachery.

Oh yeah, he did OK as an astronaut I hear.

...died Tuesday of complications from COVID-19. She was 100.

Normally, they would say she died of old age, or for what other ailments that brought them there, but if you die in a nursing home this year, it's because of Covid-19.

RIP Annie...

The Right Stuff. I was trying to remember which movie Annie was portrayed in. R.I.P.

Portrayals in popular culture. Glenn was played by Mary Jo Deschanel in the 1983 film The Right Stuff.

The film highlighted her stutter, particularly in a scene involving U.S. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson.
