we will step in if we see something going wrong, or if we disagree

If Trump is including Barr’s DOJ in “we” he’s counting on the wrong people.

Letting these dem governors keep their states in lockdown, if they so choose, would work in the president’s favour. Many on the left are seeing what dems will do to destroy the president, even if it means destroying their livelihoods in the process. No better exposure of dem state vs repub state as this. I say let them put their states in ruin.....don’t save them from whom they put in power.

No delegated power for this, just as there was no delegated power for the feds insisting on any shut down in the first place.

The lust for Arbitrary government that has been in place since F-ingDR cast aside the Constitution for a fistful of programs and regulations is a cancer that has metastasized. It will kill the nation.

This is just a signal to the states to not overshoot everyone else by too much so they don’t an too much of an advantage over other states in the region for things like tourism.

He said the same thing about shutting things down but not every state did and rightfully so. Just simple precautions. Sometimes Trump does play politics. The funny thing is he does it better than most politicians.

In hindsight no state needed to lockdown; just focus on the hotspots like elder care centers and those with other health issues. Everyone else should have just kept truckin’.

If Walmart, gas station employees, health care workers, and so many other could be ‘labeled’ essential then everyone was essential. Wear masks or whatever but don’t stop.

Trump was played as were the rest of us. This virus isn’t even contagious when someone who has it is asymptomatic. Yep; we were played/scammed/cheated. Who does that? Yep; the dems hand in hand (no gloves) with the Chinese did that. The payback for that should be as severe as it gets.

Trump should respect federalism — it’s in our Constitution. But the lockdown left shouldn’t be financed by the reopen right.

Trump is the leader of a great nation. He knows that this COVID-19 is a terrible, virulent pathogen that will devastate and kill the susceptible. Those susceptible seem to be mostly people over 60 or those with underlying illness. For most others, infections do not result in death or debility. Yet he knows that the American people are frightened and in an attempt to isolate and limit disease most productive activity and social interactions have been severely restricted. He also knows that this economic and social destruction severely weakens the country and has a significant increase in death from these dislocations.

As President in a dire situation, the bully pulpit is very influential. Frightened people desperately seek authority and direction. Trump can do the following:

1) Assure the people that every effort is being made to seek and implement effective treatments and vaccines.
2) Tell anyone with antibodies to COVID-19 to resume their activities.
3) Suggest that healthy people under 55 who so wish may resume their prior activities.
4) If people have underlying medical conditions or are over 55, it is understandable that they may wish to remain in isolation and self quarantine until a safe effective vaccine or definitive effective treatment is available

However America must re-open and life must go on.

IMHO such a statement would be widely accepted and the Governors would eventually implement.

The free states will be full speed in a few days. The blue states are getting the full dose of boss rule, which is a helpful lesson just 5 1/2 mos before election.

All of these states are expecting federal handouts to bail them out. Trump can work on conditions for that money, starting with sanctuary city status, and finishing with letting the states’ people live their lives, go to Church, work, commerce and recreation.

Is this playing out as it should if we didn’t let the Constitution go in the first place? No. Trump never presented himself as Thomas Jefferson or Alexis de Tocqueville. The Democrats are happy to use the words of the Constitution selectively to our destruction as a people. Pitting not just race against race, and pervert against family, but also urban vs. rural and state vs. state.

I love how he didn’t specify what he would see that he would say was wrong, but meanwhile has socially been clearly on the side of those wanting things opened sooner. He’s putting them in a vice, between their authoritarian instincts and their out of work people.

I think that most people are adequately woke to the notion that the democrats are, in fact, tyrants. And as such, people are ready for a major federal smack-down on the most tyrannical of the offenders.

Good! I’ve been waiting and hoping for this. One thing he can do, of course, is get the DOJ involved, because civil rights are being violated on a massive scale.
