Here’s How Wearing a Cloth Mask Helps Fight the Spread of Coronavirus
Cleveland Clinic ^ | May 13, 2020 | Cleveland Clinic

It's all about protecting others

...

We asked Steven Gordon, MD, Chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Department of Infectious Disease, and pulmonologist Raed Dweik, MD, Chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Respiratory Institute, about the science around these masks and why wearing them is important.

'''

“There is evidence that such masks reduce the exhaled aerosols from infectious, but asymptomatic, individuals.” he says. By blocking the exhale of virus particles in to the air around you, your mask is keeping the virus from spreading.

Additionally, the masks serve as a really helpful physical barrier when you cough or sneeze. “Those actions can propel this cloud of droplets from you up to 25 or 26 feet,” he says. Your mask can “disrupt” that cloud and keep those virus particles from traveling.

If your already infected, the mask does YOU no good. But it helps those around you from becoming infected.

No it doesn't. Not even a little bit. Surfaces are the primary vector and hands are what spread it to surfaces.

it’s primary means of spreading is droplets and aerosols when you speak.

No, that is false. There is no evidence of that and it wouldn't surpass the factor of surface contamination if it did.

Go ask a doctor. A real doctor not a political doctor. I lived with one the first 18 years of my life. I heard this stuff over and over again.

Every time I read something you want everyone to do I don’t do it.

Just like I drive a lot and gun my engine on Earth Day.

Absolutely 100% correct. That is and always has been the reality of respiratory viruses. Nothing will change that.

I’ve never supported earth day. You read that from someone else.

But I get your point. You’re a nonconformist even if it kills people.

My cloth mask goes down to my chest, and wraps around to the
back. I’d think it strange to wrap the top of my head.

Others might appreciate it. LOL

It actually looks pretty decent.

I took the front of an old t-shirt and cut it so I could
wrap it around and clip it in the back. Then I took one of
those thick denim shirts and cut it a bit smaller to go
underneath the first. It’s pretty dang tight, and thick
enough to stop anything I could cough or sneeze out.

Tbe only place air does escape from, is out the top,
but that’s not going to project toward someone. I suppose
some air goes through the material, but not much and not
with velocity.

The reason we were shut down was to eliminate the Expected surge of hospital patients.

The reason we wear masks is to prevent infecting others.

See that is the problem. That statement is someone’s opinion. That person thinks their opinion substitutes for scientific proof and you believe them because they have a title.

My room mate says she has the same problem.

She also does not subscribe to social distancing - comes and goes as she pleases. Visits people she wishes to see.

How do you infect others after you’ve been in quarantine for two months and not been sick?

Well I guess all the doctors that say wearing masks is unhealthy don’t seem to convince all the health care workers all across America THAT ARE WEARING MASKS THAT THEY NEED TO. So all the hundreds of thousands of medics and nurses are wrong aNd a few eccentrics are right.

Now why don’t you give it a rest because you do not have the intellectual capacity to see beyond your narrow biased view.

Who is washing their mask or changing their mask everyday and not reusing it? Almost no one. So, its efficacy is greatly diminished. Secondly, does wearing a mask for extended periods of time cause other health problems like headaches which is a symptom of hypoxia? Yes.

I really don’t give a @h*# if I spread AIDS. In fact, the sooner it gets spread around, the better it will be for all concerned.
___________________________________________

I believe that was the actual position taken, back in the day.

Contact tracing was not allowed because it was discriminatory.

As for coronavirus: everyone will eventually contract it, guaranteed. Then, it will no longer be a threat to anyone. The 1% or less who are vulnerable are the ones who should mask and isolate.

Gays were openly advocating getting it and passing it on so even heterosexuals would have it.

They wanted to normalize AIDS.

As for coronavirus: everyone is guaranteed to contract it at some point. The vulnerable 1% need to take precautions. Just like flu.
