Republican Sen. Mitt Romney on Saturday denounced President Donald Trump's firings of internal government oversight officials, calling it a "threat to accountable democracy."
Romney's comments came in response to Trump's Friday firing of State Department Inspector General Steve Linick -- the latest in a series of dismissals of independent government watchdogs that have come in the wake of the President's acquittal on two articles of impeachment earlier this year.
"The firings of multiple Inspectors General is unprecedented; doing so without good cause chills the independence essential to their purpose. It is a threat to accountable democracy and a fissure in the constitutional balance of power," the Utah Republican tweeted. Romney is the only Senate Republican who voted to convict Trump of abuse of power earlier this year.
Linick's dismissal drew immediate condemnation from top Democrats who accused the President of engaging in a pattern of retaliation against public servants charged with oversight of his administration.

Is there any way douchebag Mitts can be relieved of duties?
Forgive him, he is friends with too many CIA Analysts
Proving it was the exact thing to do...thanks Fudge
Romney never misses an opportunity to make a worse hackass of himself. His wife should tape his big stupid mouth shut for the sake of her family
Instead he has eliminated any chance of ever being elected as the Republican President, though it wouldn’t surprise me that he really is stupid enough to believe it enhances his chances.
no
it is his right as the chief executive.
if he can appoint he can fire
mitt really is an evil asah0le and shame on every songle person here who demanded we ever vote for his ass for president because ‘that’s just what you do’
mitt also knpws its totally within a presidents right to do this
and for the really low chance he doesn’t, well that makes mittens an even bigger moron than i think he is
Ditto
i know just from my personal work experience that state department is full of socialists and socialist sympathizers, from top to bottom. there are good people but the entire system at state is controlled by socialists and enablers.
first hand experience
Mutt? Shut the hell up.......President Trump is more of a man than you’ll ever be. You’re such a fool and I’m grateful you’ll never be President so give it up!
Well, the Utahans listen, and they like their bishop.
Pierre, one highly suspects, desperately banging pots to scare up interest in his long-planned indy run.
It's another of his awkward publicity stunts angling to create a false demand for an indy savior.
.
Dear Pierre.
We're on to you!
We've seen your clumsy theatrics since you ran for the senate.
You have no (as in NO) chance. We Republican, Conservative, and even Indy voters are so much smarter than you think.
You may not be entirely stupid, but you have no idea what a fool you make of yourself. And this is your sad legacy.
Please can one of the Osmond brothers punch out Mitt?!
He was an Obama appointee. Is Trump never supposed to appoint his own people?
Absolutely. Hes acting like a puppet.
Hope he and his extended family are stricken with disease tomorrow.
The LDS rule his world.....
Hey Mittens, pull the stick out of your butt.
Utah must have really stupid people. Get a grip!
unprecedented

Howard J. “Cookie”[1] Krongard (born December 12, 1940), is an American attorney and government official who served as Inspector General of the Department of State during the George W. Bush Administration. After being accused of averting probes into contracting fraud in Iraq and a possible conflict of interest regarding investigations into Blackwater Worldwide, Krongard left his post on January 15, 2008, and was not eligible for retirement.[
Doesn’t seem that unprecedented. The one before the last had problems as well.
