I’m betting on fatness to win this “war”. Boris will consult the all-knowing “experts” who will recommend/impose eating less meat, more carbs, veganism, and whatever else the Anthony Fauci’s of the nutrition world are pushing.

Oh God, not this crap again. I hope this doesn’t go back to the old yarn in the 80s that “fat is making us fat.” That has been roundly rejected by the medical community and the replacements in our foods (soy-based oils and sugars) are making us sicker.

Good luck with that....with your socialized medicine and welfare state system, Boris.

Glad he’s woke....regarding obesity and China Flu susceptibility, but this is like asking prisoners to design a new menu for themselves.

Boris, your biggest obesity problem can be described in 3 letters: NHS.

The NHS is morbidly obese.

And you have zero intention of doing anything about it.

Other than shovelling more taxpayer money at it, that is.

Brits are gonna miss their BBWs.

Nurses are not pleased, either.

I hope this doesn’t go back to the old yarn in the 80s that “fat is making us fat.”

I’d say the chances of that are right at 100%. No red meat, low saturated fat, tons of grains, soy, vegetable oils, etc. Here it all comes ... again.

Boris Johnson was born in NYC.

He could run for President.

The UK isn’t the US, so their essential government principles differ, however —

The American system of government is SUPPOSED to be focused on a limited government which is just large enough to protect our God-given rights and protect our borders. No more than that (although we’ve drifted quite a lot).

Solving all of our problems, and making sure we maintain a low-calorie diet isn’t actually part of the US social contract, and I don’t think it’s part of the UK social contract either.

If any resolution is to be made it ought to be a resolution to have the government do less of everything.

A low-carb, high protein diet is the best for losing weight. But if we destroy our economies, we won’t be able to afford it.

OMG, somebody who's fat has not only admitted they're fat but also attributed their difficulty overcoming an illness on being fat.

This almost never happens in today's "body confident" I'm a big girl don't fat shame me silliness.

Kudos to Boris.

While his intentions are correct, he is going about it wrong. Nearly ALL problems in society are caused by bad public policy. Instead of enacting “nanny state” rules to help people lose weight, he should be looking at which CURRENT rules contribute to the problem.

In the US, we subsidize corn syrup with tax dollars and then use this artificially cheap sweetener to boost the taste and calorie count in nearly all processed foods. We give EBT cards to obese people with no limits on what kind of junk food can be purchased with them. We do everything we can to socialize the cost of healthcare through insurance and government run healthcare so that the normal incentives to be a healthy weight are a social concern rather than a personal concern.

I am sure smart people could really dissect public policy to find even more ways our current laws contribute to overweight citizens.

One thing I am certain of....Creating new laws to coerce people into losing weight WILL NEVER WORK.
