In a best-case scenario, just half of Americans would participate in a voluntary coronavirus "contact tracing" program tracked with cell phones, according to the latest installment of the Axios-Ipsos Coronavirus Index.

The findings underscore deep resistance to turning over sensitive health information, and mistrust about how it could be used. The only way to get even half of Americans to participate would be for public health officials to run the program, not the White House or tech or phone companies.
What they're saying: "The whole concept of American democracy is about local control and civil liberties, individual liberties," said Cliff Young, president of Ipsos U.S. Public Affairs.
"At the end of the day, I think there will be an American solution to contact tracing," but if the survey results are any guide, "it's not going to be a centralized authority saying, 'And now we're going to have contact tracing.'"
These findings come as tech companies develop software to try to halt the spread, and public health officials train thousands to conduct the tracing.

For contact tracing involving cell phone tracking, Democrats surveyed are more open than Republicans to the notion of opt-in reporting.
68% of Democrats say they'd participate if the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was in charge, compared with 58% of independents and 32% of Republicans.
Those numbers plunged if the federal government more broadly were in charge, but Democrats remained the most likely to participate — 39% compared with 34% of independents and 23% of Republicans. That's despite the fact that Democrats are less trusting than others of the Trump administration to protect their families.
Men are slightly more likely than women to trust tech companies with the information.

Just remember: If you decide to have the antibody test for COVID-19 and test positive, you are likely to have a knock on the door from a government representative who will be asking many questions. Also your name will be on a master list that may be hacked by insurance companies and prospective employers. There is no privacy in the age of electronic medical records.
I agree and we can use the same APP on election day to see how many times they go to vote.

The left will be hiring hundreds of thousands of Kapos* to “trace” us, if we even have antibodies and no way to trace who “gave us the Covid-19.
These Kapos* will cost taxpayers billions of $’s and not help us at all re our health.

In Washington State if you don’t go along with contact tracing ID etc. you won’t be getting groceries...etc.

I don't know about you, but I live in a constitutional republic, not a democracy. I am somewhat educated, so I have an open mind towards science. I don't recall anything from the two calculus-based statistics courses I had in college that required a population of half the people for a study - what kind of confidence are they looking for? That is absurd. Additionally, there is nothing random about people volunteering. There is a blatant behavioral bias in the study's population. It says nothing about the other half of the population that operates with individual liberty in mind. All you end up knowing about is a bunch of nanny state pussies.

30 years ago, your average liberal would have been violently opposed to contact tracing on civil liberty grounds, regardless of any medicinal/societal value. I'd even suggest that your average 1980s Republican would have been OK with contact tracing to enhance societal stability and order, e.g. to stop the spread of AIDS.
Today, it is a coalition of conservatives, Deplorables, and libertarians who stand athwart contact tracing yelling stop on civil liberty grounds. The liberals are pro-contact tracing...but it's not out of a desire for a stable and orderly society - it's because they've traded in their morals and values (as they were) for liberal Sharia law, where controlling society is their dogmatic center.
This is no boating accident.
