President Donald Trump is mobilizing the United States military so a vaccine for a new coronavirus can be widely distributed once it's ready for widespread use.
Trump told Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo in an interview that aired Thursday morning that his administration is operating under the assumption the vaccine will be ready by the end of the year. Inoculation is key to resuming a fully normal life, according to multiple officials, and Trump said failing to make distribution plans could cause a delay in people receiving the vaccine.
"It's a massive job to give this vaccine," Trump told Bartiromo. "Our military is now being mobilized so that at the end of the year we'll be able to give it to a lot of people very, very rapidly."

That won’t prevent even vaccinated people from getting it. If it was a cure-all, we wouldn’t have the flu, or viral pneumonia. It won’t prevent the vaccinated from getting it in a later year. By the way, on 14 May, 1796, Edward Jenner performed the first vaccination using cowpox to vaccinate for smallpox. 224 years ago today. It took until the late 1950s to bring about an effective vaccination program worldwide which led to an end (not entirely) of smallpox as a major threat. This virus is hardly on par with smallpox and less likely to lead to an effective vaccine.

Maybe it won’t be mandatory for people to get the shot. But organizations and businesses could make it mandatory to “show your papers” to prove you had it — so you can participate in commerce — buying and selling.
