Bat Evolution? Still Looking

Evidence for Bat Evolution? Still Looking After All These Years
Smithsonian Magazine Attempts to Explain Away the Problem
by Jerry Bergman, PhD
The headline of a new Smithsonian magazine article tells it all: Why Bats Are One of Evolutions Greatest Puzzles. Paleontologists seek the ancestors that could explain how bats became the only flying mammals.[1] Bats have been in the news much lately because they are the main suspect in the spread of many zoonotic diseases into humans, including Ebola and the COVID-19 virus.
I have been writing about many of evolutionists greatest puzzles for over a half-century, producing close to 1,500 publications. Now this puzzle has been added to my long list of evolutionary puzzles I have written about, including the evolution of just about every animal on planet Earth. The bat puzzle is a major problem for evolution because bats, unlike any other known life form, are unique as flying mammals. Just about every distinctive trait of bats is unique so unique that it has been difficult for taxonomists to classify them. They are the only flying mammal.

Well-preserved bat, Onychonycteris from Fossil Butte National Monument. Wyoming. It looks like a modern bat. (Wiki Commons)

Scientists should take the easy way out and say they were designed by intelligent aliens.
No puzzle. Perhaps they reached a stage in their evolution very early on which enabled them to survive as the only flying mammal in the changing ecosystems. The fossil record is ancient, not modern, bats. Our bats are an ancient species.
Yet another creationist working overtime to make Christians look stupid.
I don’t know much about bat evolution, but I was just successful in evicting a bat colony from the spaces inside the eaves of my house...to my wife’s great relief.
arrest criminals? or traitors? not so much.
protect the people from idiots like Fauxi? not this month
Honor the BAT?
yes, there IS a BAT on the backside of the quarter.
Who arranged for that to come out in .... Feb 2020???
Yes, it’s depressing to think about the millions of bats that perished trying to fly before they “evolved” flying capability.
No puzzle? Followed by “perhaps” “science”. When will you evos take off your blinders? Lolol!
Yes, just like Richard Dawkins has speculated.
The bat is yet another brilliant design by our Genius God Who meticulously fashioned a very useful machine to eat my backyard mosquitos.
There were flying reptiles way back when and I think there is a lizard that sort of glides in the African or Asian rainforest.
That a rodent type of mammal gained the ability to fly is not surprising. Maybe it’s the only one because other forms of movement or climbing are very efficient for most varieties of mammals so flying didn’t develop in them.
Agreed
“Perhaps” “creation” please. I’m as Christian as the next guy. If you believe G_d could explain how He created the universe to someone with less scientific knowledge that a modern first grader, you, my friend, are the one with blinders.
The sad part about these things is they really show just how disconnected from science creationists are. You look at this and think that means science has failed. Scientists look at something like this and think “cool”. This is the fun part of science, still not knowing, having to dig deeper, find new data. It’s why science exists, and what creationists totally miss. It’s the QUEST that matters.
YOU are the one who used “perhaps”. You may well be a Christian, but you have been brainwashed by secularist propaganda.
Who says bats haven’t evolved?
They’ve gone from wood to aluminum!
Shed no tears for us. You are the ones who have been BS’d into believing that phenomena such as thinking, seeing and hearing could evolve naturalistically, avoiding extinction by mutating positively billions of times without a single destructive mutation ending the process.
Looks like you are the one who totally missed - the point of the article, And exposed how scientists are so closed minded about the mere possibility of creationism.
I’d say that that species of bat has DEvolved.
