Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview on Friday that American political leaders are “overstating the danger” of coronavirus to most Americans while “underestimating” the economic “carnage” that lockdowns nationwide are causing.
Toomey, a key U.S. senator from a Rust Belt battleground state, conducted this interview with Breitbart News after rolling out a plan to much more quickly reopen Pennsylvania than the plan the state’s Democrat Gov. Tom Wolf has begun. Toomey, a widely respected Republican who serves alongside a Democrat, Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA), is not known for making outlandish claims so his statements here that the panic driving policy decisions around the country instead of science—which shows the disease is much less severe than originally thought—are a huge step for the country as the conventional wisdom behind the lockdowns nationwide is challenged ever so more. He is the first U.S. senator to offer such criticism of the conventional wisdom that keeps much of the country—and much of Pennsylvania—in a state of perpetual pseudo-lockdown limbo. Toomey in recent days hosted a roundtable with medical and economic experts presenting for U.S. senators actual data about the virus, bringing together top medical and scientific officials from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC)—Pennsylvania’s largest hospital system—and Stanford University, Duke University, and New York University.

Mr. Toomey is an unprincipled RINO that readily tramples the US Constitution. He should not be able to have it both ways - support the shutdown and then when convenient call for the end of the shutdown.
There is a reason to not even entertain the idea of shuttering the economy, people's businesses and people's lives: it is blatantly unconstitutional. In fact, Congress is given the power to regulate commerce between the states in the constitution. The word 'regulate' meant to make regular, as in normal, at the time of the writing. Toomey and his cohorts in Congress have abdicated their power to make commerce normal during this whole hoax.
Toomey is the same asswipe that called for gun control after Sandy Hook - background checks, gun safety and red flag laws. He never stood for a constitutional principle in his life. He is a RINO thru and thru.

Toomey takes his marching orders from Tom Donohue and the Chamber of Commerce. He’d never arrive at this position independently.

I vehemently disagree in that the elderly are being used as sacrificial pawns.
We need the economy opened but the elderly need to be protected. We aren’t going to test the whole nation but targeted testing should be done where it makes sense. Anyone entering nursing homes should be tested since there are machines that can do it quickly. I would also say that day care centers need regular testing since children carry with no symptoms so they could start a chain that would quarantine many on a regular basis if one family with a child in a daycare tests positive.
These are just a couple of ideas to make opening safer. But in order for that to happen Trump would have to use his powers to start many more companies making the machines and tests capable of testing quickly. But he has been silent on this. I think these decisions should have been made long ago and I think many elderly have died because of it. From that very important perspective I think Trump has done a poor job leading through this crisis.
This is hyperbolic drivel lmao First off we just put our whole economy into a depression to try and “protect” the elderly and what we’ve learned is that the damn virus is spreading even among those who have stayed home. Its a virus, its going to spread, we need to do what we can to keep stout of nursing homes etc. but no amount of testing will eliminate its spread. Its in the White Houyse now and they test everyday. Buck up

If one can only get into a nursing home if they test negative, explain how it can then get within that nursing home?
It’s not ‘in’ the White House’. An advisor and valet tested positive. It probably did not get ‘into’ the White House because they were tested before entering.

I’m calling for us to reopen our economy because the damn virus is going to spread no matter we do, most people won’t even know they have it and we are destroying our economy for no reason. I admit I fell for the BS "Club for Growth" as I would NEVER vote for a Democrat and we needed that Senate seat.The "widely respected Republicans" have turned Pennsylvania into a solid "purple" state in one election cycle. Pennsylvania is not going Trump in 2020 with sh*tvotes (mail in and ballot harvested)from suburban and urban fidiots in the Delaware Valley. Wolf is playing the blue state lock down game as Whitmer is in Michigan. Both went Trump so I think the a-hole guvs will burn the state down and terrorize the people so they can blame Trump.
