On a side note, I personally think the name “murder hornets” sounds kind of stupid.

I think the Mantis got the upper hand because he attacked it from the rear. I’ve seen the hornet kill the Mantis in a head to head battle. The hornet used its mandibles to decapitate the Mantis. The Hornets stinger is a killer too.

Praying Mantids are awesome. I used to raise them when my Sons were young.
My ultimate goal was to breed them to be about seven feet tall and place them on our southern border.
